  • How Many Alts Do You Have?

Characters--is it true that no one can play just one? If the amazing variation of classes and the stunningly diverse races of Vanguard: Saga of Heroes are any indication...we predict people are gonna have issues. Shayalyn owns up to her EverQuest alt addiction bravely, and fears that she'll spend her life in Vanguard's world of Telon never quite knowing what she wants to be when she grows up. Read her take on alt addiction, and own up to your own alt-aholicism in our poll.

"My first real alt was a barbarian beastlord. Ah, she was smooth. She could solo well, and could summon a wolf to do her bidding. I thought I was cool. All the other players were making alts, and I felt like I wanted to be one of of the “in” crowd. I made another, this one a dark elf shadow knight. A dark elf enchantress followed. I was getting deeper and deeper; more and more hardcore into creating alternate characters."

  • What Will Your Character Look Like?

The makers of Age of Conan revealed their plans for character customization today.

In Age of Conan, Hyboria is a cruel and unforgiving world, we wanted our characters to look like survivors, people whose features reflected the violent and merciless nature of Hyboria.

  • It's better to be a newb...

Nevrax has just completed a large patch to Saga of Ryzom that implements a new player zone called the "Ruins of Silan". The zone is meant to make it much easier for players to get into and learn the game.

And now, a few words about the content of this patch.

    • The New Player Experience (NPE) called "Ruins of Silan", which is the major addition of this patch
    • The new interface
    • Emotes, which will take into account the player characters' gender
    • A new melee & range combat stanza
    • The Outpost crafting tool adding an energy bonus of +20, which effect will be improved
    • Jewels magic protections, whose effects against mobs' magical critical hits should work properly
    • Actions on guild members: the issue which refrained from kicking/promoting members should be fixed
    • The missile of the launcher, which should be displayed correctly
    • Landmarks, to allow you to add landmarks at the precise location of your character
    • The access to the inventory of your mektoubs when you craft, which will be limitated to the stables where they rest.
    • The position of team members on the map, which should be more accurate
    • The "undetermined" fame status, to make it work as intended with the merchants: as long as you remain "undetermined", fames higher than 50 are considered as being 50 and not more
    • The healing possibilities in PvP areas (the arena and GvG regions), where you should be able to heal your team members again.
    • The safe zones in GvG areas (Nexus, Lands of Umbra): someone inside a safe zone shouldn't be able to attack another character anymore
    • Texts in the compass: the texts displayed below will be entirely readable.
    • A new team command: /invite playername, enabling remote invitation
    • German, French and English texts, which should be cleaner
    • Some collision optimisation all over Atys, especially in Zoraï landscape
    • A few new chat commands and a new channel.

You can find the complete patch notes at the Ryzom Ring official site.

With the newbie changes and the innovative new Ryzom Ring scenario editor coming out in the near future, it's worth giving the game a looksee. If you're interest is piqued, it just so happens that there's a 7 day free Ryzom trial.

New to Ryzom and Ryzom Ring? Check out our Ryzom Ring: First Impressions from E3 2006, and stay tuned for our coverage of the Ryzom Ring preview live with the Nevrax team in Paris next week!

  • The favoured child of the moment in the MMOG marketing circles seem to be the push for games to allow every subscriber to play on the same server or world. EVE Online and Dark and Light both market heavily on the one world premise.
Do you, the player, really want to have everyone who has purchased, begged, borrowed or stolen a copy of the game to be playing in the same gameworld as you? Chocolate and peanut butter go great together. Does that mean that more chocolate and more peanut butter is even tastier? Would Scooby Doo be more humorous if he was always running around with Yogi Bear and George Jetson?
Bigger isn't always better. I know this. I read it on the "How to meet girls" website. If I saw it on the Interweb then it has to be true.
EQ2 Interviews, fish, ponds and even Jedi, are but a click away.

  • Gods and Heroes Community Team Chats with German Site

Calvert over at the first German Gods & Heroes community site has posted an interview with the community team.

Does Gods&Heroes have Items which are bound to the character which owns them or will it be possible to trade everything?

There will be a few items, such as some really rare items, certain quest items, and some minions, that are bound to your character and cannot be traded or given away. The one thing that we are trying to do with the bound items is give a valid reason for them to be bound to you. For instance, the Minotaur will not be a tradable minion, the fiction states that the reason he has become a follower is because you defeated him and as a show of respect he has joined your side. Trading him to a player that has not completed that minion quest takes away from the mystic and the minion as a status symbol of sorts."

Brush off your German with this version or find it in English instead!
