  • Music to Slash By - Sound and Music in MMOs

Do you play your favorite online game with the sound cranked up, or are you one of those people who could care less about sound and music? Mercurie talks about sound in MMOs, and music in Vanguard: Saga of Heroes in particular. Will Vanguard's music be good enough to make you want to ditch your MP3 player while you're playing?

"For Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, composer Todd Masten has been hired to write music. Masten has written music for many video and computer games including Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, Spider-Man, and Crash Nitrokart. One thing that will set Vanguard apart from other games is that developer Sigil’s plan is to add new music with each new expansion and even with patches."

Read the article, and then share your own thoughts on in-game music in our forum at Vanguard Ten Ton Hammer.

  • Bow Builds Worth a Second Look after Module 3?

Module 3 could very well breathe some life into the concept of the ranged warrior. When Samera announced on 9/14/06 that the upcoming module would change the way ranged firing works, DDO Ten Ton Hammer's Ralsu felt sure he'd be seeing more bow builds in Stormreach.

"Archer fighters are a semi-popular build in the table top Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) experience. Not so in DDO because of the unreliable method of ranged combat. With that fixed, I expect to see a few fighters who eschew the standards of "meat shield" and "gladiator" for the beauty of archery."

  • Updated Class Guide: Sorcerer

We measure engines in horsepower. Processors in gigahertz. The capacity to cast spells? We measure it in spell points, and the sorcerer is king of that raw power. With a high spell point pool, the sorcerer can blaze a trail through most any dungeon. But that's not always the best tactic.

"A sorcerer can choose to follow many different paths. She may opt to be an offensive powerhouse, specializing in spells that deal damage. Or she may choose more subtle magic; spells to enhance her adventuring party’s performance, for instance, and keep aggressive monsters at bay through charms and illusions."

  • Approaching Apollo

Gods and Heroes is, as we all know, a game with a mythological background. What better way to understand the Roman culture, than to look at one of it's gods, Apollo? Kiara takes an meaningful look at this god, and tells you all you need to know about him.

The Greek gods were men and women a good deal like ourselves. Their qualities were exaggerated to illustrate and draw attention to the good and bad within us all. The Olympians were, naturally much the same.

In this case, we all know Apollo's good points. There are, however, some rather glaring faults in the god of light, music, and medicine.
