  • Crafting in Age of Conan

The official site for Age of Conan has been updated with another Gameplay Preview. This preview gives us a look at crafting and what we can expect to see when the game launches.

Whilst the bare hands and ingenuity of a warrior can take them far, even in the brutal realm of King Conan, they are though even better served with some well forged steel or finely made iron sheathed by their side.

Weapons and armor are the tools by which those whose adventures find them in the dangerous lands of Hyboria live or die by. Likewise there is always a need for potions and other medicinal aids, as even the hardiest of warriors can find themselves in need of recovery.

  • Funcom explains to CVG why Conan will be "the most mature MMO ever made"

CVG has posted an interview today with Game Director, Gaute Godager. This interview reveals lots of great details about the game.

Conan (as it's known to its mates) is being billed as mature, brutal and barbaric, all in 7.1 surround audio to make the crunching sound of bone hit home even harder. It's up to you to try and keep a lid on peace and serenity of the world but things are obviously on the brink of chaos and spiraling out of control. Wouldn't be much fun otherwise, would it?

  • A Seasoned Player's Look at The Burning Crusade

With the release of the first expansion for World of Warcraft just months away, many vocal players are stepping up to voice their opinions about the game. We've got in touch with one of these very players who will be affected by upcoming changes to the raiding scene. We've sat down and talked with an extremely seasoned player, DarkFact
of the Blackhand server, on this very subject.

"Xerin: Blood Elves, Draenei, Shaman/Paladin mixup, etc. How do you think the new skills and classes for the two factions will help or hurt raiding?

DarkFact: I think it'll make the raiding game more balanced overall and make content easier to make since they don't have to balance it for both Horde and Alliance. They will make the raids that much powerful but you will need to decide how many of each you're bringing and why, what buffs to apply, etc, so in a way, you'll have to think more."

  • Beta Ring of Ryzom Manual Now Available at Ten Ton Hammer

Ring of Ryzom is the extremely innovative expansion to Saga of Ryzom, due to go live on Oct. 3rd. If you've been following our coverage since the preview event in June, you know that Ryzom Ring is a first-in-class MMORPG scenarior design toolset which will allow players to design and run intricate, multi-stage story arcs for players on the live servers. Though their tools make the design process relatively painless, Nevrax is offering a sneak peek at a how-to manual - downloadable at Ten Ton Hammer - to show you the features and flexibility of the design side of Ring of Ryzom. They've kindly allowed us to offer the manual to our community, but keep in mind that the update and the manual are still in beta form.

"Welcome to the Ring! If you've played much on Atys in the world of Ryzom, you're familiar with the Fyros and the Matis, the Tryker and the Zoraïs. You've met, and fought, more Kitin than you'd ever want to meet in your dreams, and you've started leaning toward the Kamis or the Karavan. You probably even have an opinion about whether Jena is real and has actually returned to Atys. You've explored many regions of the world, and completed wonderful quests. But you've never had a chance to create anything new yourself — it's always been someone else's world. Until now …

The Ring delivers a whole new realm of massive online gaming — areas where you can create Scenarios yourself, filled with precisely those creatures, characters and situations that you know will make the best of all possible Scenarios. You create a Scenario, then once you're ready for others to play through your new Scenario, you can open it to just a few other players by invitation, or run it for anyone who wants to play it. You can create a special limited-run Scenario, guiding and speaking for the "non-player characters," and even award prizes to the best players."

Keep reading to learn all you can about Ryzom Ring. Stop by the forums right here at Ten Ton Hammer to share your thoughts with us on this manual or anything at all about Ryzom Ring!

  • I read a lot of game developer interviews. I read far too many of them. It's part of my job. When I come across an interview that bypasses the niceties and gets right to the "nutmeat" as Stephen Colbert would say I have to point it out. Even if you don't play Dungeons and Dragons Online the interview with Turbine Executive Producer James Jones and DDO Lead Designer David Eckelberry is well worth the read. Jason "Dymus" Roberts, lead content designer for EverQuest 2 also delivers in stellar form in an interview on our EQ2 community site.

  • Community Member Interview: Balor Rone

In today's interview, Martuk talks Vanguard: Saga of Heroes with fan fiction writer, Ultima Online alumnus, and Vanguard Ten Ton Hammer community member Balor Rone. Read what Balor Rone has to say about Vanguard and commercialism in gaming.

"I highly dislike the commercialism that occurs in video games. In 2002 there were loads of video games on the market that were unique and they would all cater to the specific tastes of the individual gamer. When Blizzard came out with World of Warcraft, there was an influx of commercial competition between games, and the uniqueness of games suddenly became a bad thing."

  • Jason "Dymus" Reports Chats With Kiara

Who isn't talking about the coming expansion Echoes of Faydwer? Ten Ton Hammer has an exclusive interview with Lead Content Designer, Jason "Dymus" Reports regarding the expansion. Will there be solo content? What will the new tradeskills be like?

Kiara: Could we have an example of what the new armour sets will be like? The benefits to having a full set of whatever sort of armour, other than the obvious benefit of, ya know, matching colors?

Dymus: The new item sets do not just cover armor though armor sets will be the most commonly seen. The benefits are varied but they range between things such as focus effects, increases in certain types of damage, critical hit percentages, beneficial reactive effects, overall increases in statistics, hit points, or power. The goal is to make having a complete (or even partial) set very rewarding and desirable.

  • 30 Minutes on Module 3 with Turbine

Ralsu finally caught up with Turbine Executive Producer James Jones and DDO Lead Designer David Eckelberry, and he hit them with his best questions. Wait until you see what Turbine's masterminds say about DDO raid encounters, the MMO industry, and the "character" Ten Ton Hammer displays by fighting against platinum sellers!

"Ralsu: Now people seem pretty satisfied that Velah is an appropriate challenge, but many still contend that only min/max (or optimized) character builds have a chance to survive DDO raid encounters. Does Turbine test raid encounters with non-standard builds?

David: I would say our testing characters are not as min/max as players in general. We build them in 30 minutes and go shopping from the item database. We build them intelligently, but we don't spend as much time as the average player thinking about each item slot or Enhancement. We call them 90% characters, and they can win more often than they lose. You know, there's no guarantee that if you take 10-12 role-playing builds to a raid—you know, the characters are built in a non-optimized way—there's no guarantee they will have success."
