  • Shack News Chats with Mafnus Bergsson

ShackNews has updated their site with this interview which covers many topics including the recent investment banking scam.

EVE Online is a pretty distinct MMO in that it focuses on complex systems and open-ended gameplay rather than level grinding. While it doesn't have an enormous mainstream userbase like other games in the genre, it has attracted a solid population of predominantly hardcore gamers. The game has been growing steadily since its launch three years ago and it's been quite succesful for independent Iceland-based developer CCP. Earlier this week I had a chance to sit down with the developer's CMO, Magnus Bergsson, at the Nordic Game event held in Malmo, Sweden.

  • New Burning Crusade Coverage Page & Outland Map

Autumn is in the air, and we're inching ever closer to the highly anticipated winter 2006 launch of World of Warcraft's first expansion: The Burning Crusade. With that in mind, we've consolidated our Burning Crusade coverage into a single area on the WoW - Ten Ton Hammer site and even thrown in a detailed, easily printable, non-flash version of the Outland map recently released by Blizzard! We have plenty of articles planned for this section, so check back often!

"In World of Warcraft's first retail expansion, the forces of the Burning Legion have returned to wage war upon the races of Azeroth as the mightiest adventurers from the Horde and Alliance journey into the Dark Portal to discover the shattered lands beyond. This highly anticipated expansion will raise the level cap from 60 to 70, see the introduction of two new races (Blood Elves for the Horde, Draenei for the Alliance - with level 1-20 starting areas to match), a huge new continent (Outland, for players level 58-70). We can also look forward to an entirely revamped PvP system, a new crafting profession (jewelcrafting, which cuts gems for the new "slotted" weapons), selectable dungeon difficulty settings for Outland dungeons, hundreds of new monsters, quests, and items, and finally: flying mounts!

At Ten Ton Hammer, we're dedicated to bringing you the latest news on the Burning Crusade. Feel free to bookmark this page and check back often!"

  • Bard Class Guide Preview

Part talented troubadour, part offensive fighter, the Bard in MMOs is often a unique and complex class. How is the Vanguard: Saga of Heroes Bard shaping up? Zinn's class guide offers a compendium of pre-launch information to give you a sneak peek. Did you know that Vanguard Bards can compose and name their own songs? Check out the guide and get the complete story.

"Bards have traditionally required skill to play. In EverQuest, Bards had to be able to multitask and twist their songs. While there will be no twisting for Bards in Vanguard Saga of Heroes, multitasking and skillful play looks to be a prerequisite of the class."

  • A big round of clap for the community managers here at TenTonHammer.com. This week alone they have published 27 massively multiplayer online game articles. No other network comes close. Way to go!
A day, a week, a while ago, I asked if you would be interested in a TenTonHammer.com reader Meet 'N Greet. It appears that the Loading... crew are the most vocal of the communities as I have received the most responses. It may also mean that I have more people who want to see me tarred and feathered. That said, the current number of people does not lend itself to much meeting and the greeting would take up even less time. Tarring and feathering would be right out of the question. There aren't enough of you to hold me down. Bring an army!
Contest winners, gamer gatherings, Sea World, Starbucks and much more is but a click away.

The bright lights, the myriad avenues of entertainment--Las Vegas is a great place for gamers to meet up and have a fun time. Oh, and we'd invite a few other people you'd want to meet.
