  • EverQuest II: Echoes of Faydwer Updated Impressions

Gamespot has posted an updated preview of the upcoming expansion to EQII. Keep reading to see what they think...

One of the advantages of massively multiplayer online role-playing games that let you play in persistent virtual worlds with thousands of other players is that they can evolve and grow over time. The world of EverQuest II will experience another growth spurt with the release of the upcoming third expansion, EverQuest II: Echoes of Faydwer. With Echoes of Faydwer, the designers at Sony Online Entertainment continue to tie together the worlds of EverQuest II and the original EverQuest. Faydwer was an area in the original game, and the traditional home of the elves, dwarves, and gnomes is back and better than before.

  • Update on 2Moons and 9Dragons...

MMORPG.com has posted an interview with Howard Marks, CEO of Acclaim, the makers of the upcoming 2Moons and 9Dragons.

The day after giving a talk to AGC called “Game Over”, Howard Marks and I met on the show floor to discuss 9Dragons, 2Moons, Acclaim and future economic models for the MMORPG industry.

In his talk, Marks challenged developers to see the world through his eyes. Marks is a firm believer that the future of MMORPGs is in advertising, just as television and the internet itself have ended up. Through Acclaim, Marks hopes to be at the forefront of this future and has boldly promised that all Acclaim’s MMORPGs will be pretty much free to play.

Free to play? Keep reading to learn more. Would you like to play for free if it meant in hame adds? Let us know in the forums here at Ten Ton Hammer.

  • European Community Continues to Grow With Each New Lineage II Update

A press release was issued this morning that tells us about the expansion of service to the European Lineage II Community. Not only has it expanded, it has doubled!

Teon, the first server dedicated for European players, was recently moved to Frankfurt from the U.S as part of a larger overall plan to host Lineage II worlds in mainland Europe. By hosting servers in Europe, local players experience increased game performance, a better chance of building clans with same language players and more convenient timings of in-game community events, all of which are core elements to the Lineage II experience.

  • What Drives You to Play?

Richard Bartle defined the four primary gaming types as Achievers, Explorers, Socializers, and Killers? Our weekly poll asks the question: what motivates you in an MMO? For me it's all about reaching my goals. For you pleasure could come in the form of ganking newbies. It's all in how you play it; so tell us what makes you tick!

"Achievers are motivated by their in-game goals. These are the players who want to quickly move to the top of the food chain and earn both levels and loot. The Achiever is the person who always has the best gear at raids, or the one who insists on clawing his way to max level faster than everyone else."

Let your vote be counted! Head over and vote now...it only takes a moment. Don't miss a thing about this upcoming game. Vanguard Ten Ton Hammer is your one stop shop for all things Vanguard!

  • If you haven't already, do yourself a favour and check out the Joe Ybarra Interview from AGC. Joe is known for games like M.U.L.E. (oldtimers will remember this fondly) and Age of Empires II (Which I have a personal affinity to).
I mentioned a few days ago that my $3,300 Alienware laptop had packed it in. Apparently, mourning the loss of its mobile brother the desktop that I own decided it could no longer go on alone and packed it in yesterday. That's $7,300 worth of door-stops folks! Thank you Alienware! I logged into the Alienware support site, plastic Alienware credit card support thingee in my hand and was quick-minded enough to fraps the bloody video conversation I had with their tech.

"At the top of the top waterway are two traps, both a set of spikes. At the bottom of the top waterway is a blade trap (which can be disarmed), and two spiders who lie in wait. Finally, another trap (darts) is set to shoot toward those entering a niche here."
