  • During the 36 hours of server downtime Blizzard web gurus gave those without a home something to look at. An Outlands interactive map was released, complete with flash clicky goodness. My first glance at the map gave me a feeling of comfort. It was almost like going home. Then I realized why, it's a map of Canada! Sure, Quebec doesn't exist, but it don't exist for many Canadians either.
First, take a look at the Outlands Map.
Now take a look at a map of Canada.
Even the zone names and areas are familiar. Blades's Edge Mountains on the west coast look just like the Rocky Mountains. Zangarmarsh could be the Alberta oil sands. Even the Hellfire Peninsula is sort-of, kind-of where Quebec should be. Shadowmoon Valley is the spitting image of the Niagara escarpment and falls. It's going to be a huge surprise when all of the NPCs wander around with 'ockey sticks and greet you with "May your blades never dull, eh?"
One of the raid dungeons will require the raiders to perform a left wing lock, center ice trap in order to defeat Gretzkykasaurillidan. I cast Maple Syrup Rank 3 as my crowd control spell. Hoo boy!
Canadian invasions, more Stargate eye-candy, Vin in the forest, four exclusive MMOG articles and more is but a click away.

  • Disambiguation

The official site for Lord of the Rings Online has been updated with a new Dev Diary. Nik Davidson offers this update titled Disambiguation...

Gundo's wounds were serious. The dwarves had beaten the poor hobbit soundly with maces and axes. He'd lost a lot of blood. The corpses of his friends littered the field, but he was almost in the clear. His heart was beating fast; he had sent several dwarves to their bloody end, and he could hear their angry yells behind him. He ran - ran as fast as his stubby little hobbit legs could take him, his hands white-knuckled, gripping the flag. At last, he crested the hill, and the great horn sounded. Victory! Victory, but at what cost?

Yeah, so that's what we're NOT doing.

When we announced there would be PvP in LOTRO, I knew some people immediately would come up with the above nightmare scenario. (Or worse. You guys are hella creative.) As such, we just sort of shook our heads as people concluded that we were turning our game into "HOBBIGEDDON: SLAUGHTER AT BAG END." Nothing could be further from the truth. What I'd like to do today is clarify what we mean when we talk about playing evil races, and PvP in LOTRO.

  • Spiffy or Iffy?

GameSpy took a look at the upcoming expansion to Everquest II, Echoes of Faydwer. Keep reading to find out if they liked what is to come...

Two retail expansions to EverQuest II have been released to date, but depending on who you ask, the upcoming Echoes of Faydwer may be the first that's truly deserving of the name. Due out this November, Echoes looks to expand the game in many meaningful ways, adding not only a landmass of significant size, but a new playable race, and some apparently far-reaching game-wide changes. We recently caught up with SOE to get an idea of what we can expect.
