  • Dreamlords Talks with Strategy Informer

Strategy Informer recently had a chance to sit down and talk with Marcus Andrews, a game designer for Dreamlords.

Strategy Informer: Firstly, could you introduce yourself to our readers?

Marcus Andrews: My name is Marcus Andrews and I am one of the Game Designers working on Dreamlords.

Strategy Informer: Where did the idea of creating Dreamlords come about?

Marcus Andrews: I personally wasn’t really involved in the initial idea process. Dreamlords came about when we had an internal week long workshop at Lockpick on what game to produce. We choose Dreamlords before many other interesting concepts mainly because of the originality and the possibility to publish it through digital distribution.

  • A Candid Look at WoW and Fan Events

Given the ravening popularity of World of Warcraft, it was a shock to many a system when Blizzard announced wouldn't host a BlizzCon 2006 this fall. Ethec examines Blizzard's possible motivations for not going annual with what could easily be the industry's largest fan festival and why he believes yearly fan festivals are important both for the developer and the playerbase.

"We can only speculate on why Blizz elected not to give fans a place to meet - forsooth, it's not for lack of subscription revenues. I quietly wonder if someone at Blizzard is concerned about pushing the hype too hard and careening over that precipitous cliff named "overplay" that's undone more than a few music artists: the Spice Girls, Celine Dion, et al. Fans can certainly poison themselves if they drink too often from their own excitement, and one thing Blizzard seems to do extraordinarily well is manage expectations. "

  • Why Gamers Can Meet in the Open Now

Once upon a time, gamers were relegated to basement LAN parties and frag fests. Now, the phenomenon that is online gaming finds MMO players getting together to meet their online gaming buddies in the real world. Medeor takes a look at the ways that gaming and real life converge. Will his Outlook one day pop up a corporate meeting reminder telling him to meet his colleagues in a neutral tavern on a WoW server? You just never know!

"I wouldn’t necessarily meet up with any of the Halo l33ters who have fragged me, but I would meet up with my MMO buddies. I don’t know many who would literally die for their guild mates, but their avatars take punches for them every night. It is really quite chivalrous. Maybe we could get that back into society, hmm?"

  • Today rather than make my usual feeble attempt at humour I will keep the main body of this column serious. Five years ago today al-Queda attacked the United States of America by flying several aircraft full of civilians into civilian targets.
I am not an American. I am a Canadian, but no matter what petty squabbles we have and no matter what is said across a cup of coffee or a mug of beer by the respective populations, Americans and Canadians are brothers. When al-Queda attacked the twin towers in New York City they attacked our family. I can think of no two other nations with the incredible relationship that the United States and Canada share. One needs only look to the world's largest undefended border to grasp how close and how true this relationship is.

  • What Makes a Great Vanguard Community?

What makes a great pre-launch Vanguard community? We know that you’ll all want plenty of guides and information, as well as a solid database, once Vanguard launches. And all those things will certainly be here. We also think we have a pretty good idea of what you’re looking for right now while Vanguard is still in beta, and we’re working hard to provide it. Even so, we thought we’d ask for your opinion. And you know what you can do with your opinion, don’t ya? Vote in our poll and share your thoughts in our forum...of course!
