Ten Ton Hammer

  • GameSpot sits down with Codemasters and Turbine at Leipzig to see an advanced build of this Tolkien-inspired MMORPG.

Did GameSpot give this look at the game a thumbs up...or down? Keep reading to find out.

LEIPZIG, Germany--Based on the literary works of J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings Online is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game set for release on the PC. We've seen quite a lot of the game over the past year, and as it moves into beta phase at the end of September, more people will be able to see just how it's shaping up. As you'd expect from a game based on such a classic piece of literature, The Lord of the Rings Online has a firm emphasis on story. Playing as one of seven character classes, you will follow a path that frequently crosses that of the fellowship of the ring, with plenty of familiar names and places along the way. We visited Codemasters at Leipzig to see an example of the first few character levels and what players can hope to expect as they work their way deeper into the game.

Check out the preview at GameSpot. Don't forget to stop by our own Lord of the Rings Online community at LOTRO Ten Ton Hammer. Share your thoughts with us in the forums there.

  • Profession Guide Update - "First Aid"

Looking to restore your health in a speedy and efficient manner? Look no more! First Aid allows you to restore your health in and out of combat. Spend less time between fights, duck behind a bush and restore your hp, and much more! While your at it, take a look at our First Aid guide that's just been updated with even more information so that you can get the most of the First Aid skill!

"First Aid is a skill that allows you to craft and use bandages from cloth (generally obtained from Humanoid enemies). Bandages, like their application in real life, allow you to restore your characters hit points. Like most restoration abilities, bandages can only be used when nothing is hitting you. Even with this limitation, they are still very valuable in both during and after combat."

Check out the rest of the updates in this guide. Do you think we missed anything? Let us know in the forums at WoW Ten Ton Hammer.

Not good with a lasso? Our forum wrangler Aunraye is, and she's roped some interesting topics from the official Vanguard forums just for you. This week we're looking at underwater adventuring, ways to decrease frustration when killing mobs looking for a certain quest drop, and the idea of taming your own mount. Intriguing? Of course! We only rope the Grade A prime topics. Check out This Week on the Forums, and then check out our own community forums at Vanguard Ten Ton Hammer for more interesting topics in a friendly (sane!) environment.

  • New Tradeskill Writs - The Other Timesink!

New Tradeskill writs are on the horizon, and the changes are rather extensive. What awaits the avid tradeskiller, and when can we expect the changes? RadarX has your answers.

You'll find few people who haven't spent an afternoon grinding out writs at one point or another, whether to level their guild, or gain personal status points to purchase things. Tradeskillers have had the same opportunity, but instead of hunting down basilisks in bonemire (don't lie like you take a different writ), they make chairs and stuff that makes my rent cheaper. While no more interesting than the adventuring, the tradeskill ones provided a meaningful way for those who spend most of their time crafting to contribute to their guild and buy guild reward items.

More information is just a click away. Are you a tradeskiller? Does doing tradeskills give you a rash? Let us know in the forums at EQ2 Ten Ton Hammer.

  • Myths and Reality: An Exclusive Gods & Heroes Q&A with Perpetual Studios' John Danza

Not to be confused with the "Who's The Boss?" star (he probably hates that), John Danza is the boss of the quest design team behind Perpetual Entertainment's Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising, a title that's won our E3 Best of Show award two years running. John recently took some time to talk about the game's mythological backing and gameplay details with us at Ten Ton Hammer.

"Ten Ton Hammer: In mythology, adherents to one god often paid dearly when the relations between different gods changed - Jupiter knocks boots with an unsuspecting farmgirl and gets turned into a goat by a cuckolded Juno, for example. Will players be impacted by shifting favor among the gods, or will things stay fairly calm up there on Mt. Olympus?

John Danza, Gods & Heroes Quest Lead: It is possible that the player characters might do something to offend the gods, thus creating some adverse conditions to overcome, but in general, the player will witness these adversities placed upon many of the NPCs in the world. Thematically, we play on these classic themes and craft quests around them."

  • If you have or suspect to have any interest at all in Lord of the Rings Online I suggest you take a minute, right now, and check out the video developer diary with Jeffrey Steefel. Get along now...this will still be here when you get back.
Those of you new to this blog may not be aware that Thottbot, Allakhazam and OGaming are all owned by IGE, one of the largest gold seller companies in the industry. TenTonHammer took the stance that we would not accept gold advertising. Then we went a step further and began developing our own database for players like you who don't want to contribute to the gold farming economy. was born and in its short lifetime has grown considerably. We continue to need new beta testers to try and break this thing, add comments and make it a place where players trying to escape the gold farmers' clutches can find safe haven.
