  • Director of Community Relations chats about Labyrinth of the Minotaur

MMORPG.com has posted an interview with the Director of Community Relations for Dark Age of Camelot, Sanya Thomas. In this interview she dodges some questions the team just isn't ready to answer. Keep reading to see what the folks at MMORPG.com were able to learn.

EA Mythic's Director of Community Relations Sanya Thomas recently sat down with us for an interview on their recently announced Dark Age of Camelot expansion, Labyrinth of the Minotaur. Unfortunately, there were a few questions she was not yet ready to answer fully. Nonetheless, for those that cannot wait, here is what we learned.

MMORPG.com: Obviously, the idea of a cross-realm class and a cross-realm race is a departure for a game that has always been quite strictly segregated. Why did you choose to go a route that seemingly brings the three realms closer together?

Find out the answer to this question and more. When you're done with this interview, share your thoughts right here in the forums at Ten Ton Hammer.

  • Be a Good Grouper...Get Good Groups

When Vanguard: Saga of Heroes launches some time this winter, some of us will have guilds that migrate over from other games, or friends that we intend to play with; but there will be plenty of others entering the game on their own. How do you succeed in an online game without a guild or a perma-group? You win friends and influence people. The friendly (and arguably influential) Shayalyn offers her guide to being a good grouper. Have you got what it takes?

"When it comes to being cool, you might argue that some people have it and some people don’t. But I actually believe coolness can be cultivated to some degree. There are some traits that make some players cooler than others and although in most cases these traits are probably innate, you may be able to earn yourself a +10 Badge of Coolness if you work the following skills..."

Keep reading and see if you have the needed skills. Did Shayalyn miss something that makes one an uber cool grouper? Tell her in the forums at Vanguard Ten Ton Hammer.

  • Basic Training: Does WoW Offer Enough?

Our editorial theme this week is "back to school", and WoW @ Ten Ton Hammer staffer Greg "Doogmeister" Wood weighs in with a critical look at how Blizzard treats new World of Warcraft players. Are tutorial pop-ups and "breadcrumbing" quests enough, or is there room for improvement?

"Right from the start, the game is offering you useful advice in the pop-up boxes. For example, telling you how to find quest givers, loot corpses and engage enemies. As new experiences come up in the game, there continue to be pop-up boxes giving you instructions. Even in the later stages of the game, pop-up confirmation text (eg. when you will change an enchant/item improvement) reminds even the more experienced players of something they may have overlooked."

Read the rest of this editorial to see if you agree with Doogmeister. Find his opinion in sync with yours? Think he's off his rocker? You know what to do...hit the forums at WoW Ten Ton Hammer and speak up!

  • A Pirates of the Burning Sea Pre-PAX Pirate Parley with Lead Designer Taylor Danes

Several members of the Flying Lab Software team are planning to avast development on Pirates of the Burning Sea and head to Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) in Seattle this weekend, where Burning Sea, so long a deep-in-development corner dweller at the big conventions, will announce a release date and make its maiden voyage as a belle of the expo ball. Lead Designer Taylor Daynes sailed in for an entertaining pre-PAX Q&A about the dev team's recent progress with this highly anticipated buccaneer beauty of an MMORPG.

Ten Ton Hammer - We know what a pirate is, we know what a naval officer is, but what's an adventurer? A privateer? Frat boys taking daddy's yacht for a spin? How is playing an adventurer different than playing a pirate?

Taylor Danes, Burning Seas Lead Designer - Adventurers are the Han Solos of our world. They are independent captains, making their way through the world through wit, alliances, and the point of their sword. They can sign up with Trade Companies, or can make a fortune setting up economic ventures like mines or plantations. They can help the Navies with special missions, or they can even play more as "privateers" – daring captains who get Royal permission to act like pirates, so long as they don't target their own countrymen.

Adventurers are the dashing rogues of Pirates of the Burning Sea. They value their independence and freedom, but they are fiercely loyal, and will fight valiantly for their country when the situation gets dire. "

Keep reading to see what else Taylor Dane had to say. Who isn't waiting for this piratey adventure to launch? Let us know you thought in the forums right here at Ten Ton Hammer!

  • New Site Poll

As we move through DDO Quest Week here at Ten Ton Hammer, we want to take the time to discuss the fully instanced nature of quests in DDO. We'd like to know if you think 100% instanced game play is right or wrong for MMOGs. We share our thoughts to get you started.

"One of the features that makes Dungeons & Dragons Online (DDO) stand apart from the myriad massively-multiplayer online games (MMOGs) that glut the market today is that DDO provides 100% instanced quests. For sure, it was one of the elements that convinced me that DDO was going to change MMOGs forever. In case you're a little foggy on the details, an instance is a special version of a zone or quest created specifically for you and your group (or raid party...or opponents for player-vs-player combat)."

Let your voice be heard...er read? You know what I mean! Head over to DDO Ten Ton Hammer and make your vote. Tell us all about it in the forums too!

He will give you the quest "Listening in for Qeynos" which starts the whole process of betrayal.

  • Keeping up to date on this industry is a living, screaming nightmare. There are dozens of games with dozens of stories, each of which changes on at longest a monthly and often weekly basis. Each game has dozens of developers and public relations staff who are trying to get the word out, but often what one tells us isn't quite the same as what another informed us about in the not too distant past.
Thanks goodness our network is fortunate enough to have a King's ransom in quality editors, many of which write their own blogs, kind of like the one you are reading now. There is simply no means to keep up with this industry without a knowledgeable, inebriated staff. Let me introduce you to a few of our intrepid staff.
Introductions, CNN, Nailguns in the nads, seven new and exclusive MMOG articles and much more is but a click away. Loading... August 23, 2006 [Nailgun Edition]

  • Dave Perry Makes the Interview Rounds

Yes folks, it's another interview with 2Moons Dave Perry. Today, the interview is with RPG Vault. Don't miss the screenshot that is posted along with this interview!

In this role, he's involved in 2Moons, the intriguing persistent state endeavor announced two weeks ago by publisher Acclaim. The initial press release served up some very interesting pieces of information. For instance, it stated that the game will be free, violent and aimed at adult players, with the focus being to become a high-level combatant in a world characterized by the tagline "No mercy for the weak, no pity for the dying, no tears for the slain." The way in which development is being handled also piqued our curiosity. Although based on GameHi's Dekaron, a massively multiplayer offering that has been a success in Korea, 2Moons is described as a "re-make" rather than a translated or even localized version. Naturally, we were immediately keen to know more, so we were very pleased for the chance to question David Perry.

Get clicking to learn more! What are your thoughts about 2Moons? Think you will want to play it? Share your thoughts with us in the forums here at Ten Ton Hammer.
