  • It's in the game?

Warhammer Alliance gets gritty with videogame colussus (and MMO peewee) Electronic Arts. Kudos to the WA folks for asking some tough questions, but the result is about what you'd expect, a verbal tug of war where Chip Lange of EA reads something like a talking press release.

Motor City Online, Earth and Beyond, Ultima X, UO2. By my count EA has published more failed MMOs than any one publisher in existence. How did EA approaching this deal differently than its past ventures? Why should gamers believe something is different about this deal?

Chip: We feel differently. UO is the longest running MMO in gaming history and still supports an active user base who love the game as well as the new content we're pouring into the UO universe. We've had some other projects which have not lasted as long in the space as UO, but the learnings in game design which have come from those projects make EA a better partner in this space. We look to combine this learning with Mythic's design excellence and create the most dynamic and exciting games in the genre for years to come.

UO ftw, eh? Those of us whose entire UO experience consists of swinging at a practice dummy for an hour only to earn a sound beating from a cow feel differently about Ultima Online.

Anyway, check out the latest word from EA on the Mythic deal at Warhammer Alliance, then head to the Ten Ton Hammer Warhammer community site to discuss.

  • On a whim, I fired up a character on a roleplay or RP server in World of Warcraft. I'm not a roleplayer. I don't see the joy in it though I appreciate that others do. I've always wondered if was my genetic makeup or if roleplaying was simply a fringe aspect of MMOGs. My experience went something like this;
I created an undead priest since I could speak without attempting to infuse a Jamaican accent. It also meant that I wasn't forced to speak like I had only eight firing neurons left in my decomposing brain.
Character created I promptly walked up to the first player I could find and introduced myself.
Boomjack: Boomjack at your service. Purveyor of fine healing and first aid. Some call me a body cobbler, nailing and stitching until my patients are as good as the day I dug them out of their graves. Untiring and relentless, perserverence is Boomjack's closest cousin.
Vargron: I don't group at low levels.
Witty roleplaying, orange juice, Vanguard forums and much more is but a click away.

  • Acclaim has teamed up with legendary designer David Perry to build a brand new and entirely free MMORPG.

Always room for more. The more the merrier. These statements seem to fit the ever growing genre of MMOs. Another new game has been announced today and there is an interview and screenshots over at

2Moons is not for kids and Perry was very upfront to state that the game will carry an M rating.

“Violence in games is just an issue if you’re not being honest about the violence in your games,” added Perry. “I’m doing my best to make this a violent game.”

So head on over and check out this new game. Is there room in the genre for yet another MMO? How do you feel about MMOs that aim for violence? Let us know right here in the forums at Ten Ton Hammer!

  • Bog Lurkers Revealed

In the continuing glimpses of the creatures that will inhabit Middle-earth, Turbine gives us a peek today at the Bog Lurker.

Found in the forested wetlands of western Middle-earth, the bog-lurker lives a concealed existence in the darkened wilds. To the casual observer, the body of the bog-lurker is seemingly made of root and bramble, its back alive with marsh-plants and its limbs formed of bark and wood. Ancient tales tell of the creature working alongside the mighty Ents of Eriador, acting in their service to assist in the shepherding of the trees.

  • Newest Build

DDO Build Week continues at Ten Ton Hammer with new build involving three classes! Battlebeard and Ralsu team up on this special build, which they think turns an unlikely smattering of classes into a fighting force.

"Use the small allotment of spell points afforded to this build to buff for combat. The Raging Witchdoctor can use Rage 4 times per rest, so conserve these uses well between shrines. Under no circumstances should you show up for a boss fight without Rage."

Find out what three classes are combined in this special build! Do you have a build you'd like to share? Head over to the DDO Ten Ton Hammer forums and give us a peek at what you've created.
