  • Computer Games Online Speaks With Developers

ComputerGamesOnline posted a two part interview with the developers of Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach. This series takes a look at the upcoming module Twilight Forge.

What is the meaning behind the title of the new module; Twilight Forge? What are some of the new features in the module?

The Twilight Forge is a ruined armory nestled within the caldera of a volcano. Mind Flayers are using this forge to create weapons for a war against Eberron®. The player must navigate past the security system of the Twilight Forge and fight mind-controlled monsters, as well as Mind Flayers and ancient Quori-built Warforged to put an end to the Mind Flayers’ plans.

  • Game Update 25

Game Update 25 is just around the corner, so get on the runway, strike a pose and put on the finest in Norrathian leisurewear. RadarX takes a look at what's to come with this next update.

Game Update 25 is just around the corner, and promises to bring some interesting changes to EverQuest 2. No, that wasn't a typo, I actually did say Game Update 25. Apparently there is a terminology change working it's way into the process at SOE, so if you have questions, you should PM Blackguard. Ok, I'm just kidding, please don't PM Blackguard...a lot. Unlike our last Live Update (I don't know the naming protocol for previous Updates), it appears there will be little in the way of nerfs, so what can we expect to see?

  • I remember the days when bringing a game home and breaking open the shrinkwrap was a religious experience. I wanted to understand the game mechanics, read the background lore and really get into it. I didn't purchase many games and the ones that made their way into my home I wanted to enjoy it to the fullest. I would even go as far as reading the manual and watching those tip screens as the game loaded. Those golden, euphoric days disappeared in the 90s when I joined the gaming industry. I had more games on my desk that I could play, or care to play. I reviewed good games, but more often than not, I reviewed average or downright terrible games. I attribute much of my jadedness to some lousy paint-ball game I was forced to review, or maybe it was the launch experience of Anarchy Online. I can't remember.
When a game arrives on my desk today it barely gets a glance until I need to do some research. 98% of the time I already know more about it than the publisher's public relations department. I can turn the marketing spin into truth. Like Superman I can see through the smoke and mirrors to the reality. Example, you want examples? So be it... I have removed the game names where necessary, replacing them with the term Pickle-Weasel to protect the not-so-innocent.

"Pickle-Weasel was awarded the Most Innovative at E3."

Translates to: This game is so different from the other games out there that very few people will take the time to learn how to play it. Also note, it was awarded "Most Innovative". It could be the Most Innovative game about one-eared, three-legged donkeys with blue eyes. Innovative sounds fancy, but I'll take "best" over innovative any day.

  • The Dominator

Our second Custom Build for Wizard Week here at DDO @ Ten Ton Hammer comes from Lyle Vertigo. The Dominator shows how wizards can take control of any situation. Lyle tells us how to build the Dominator and offers his own witty evaluation of the spells you'll find most useful.

"Web (Doctor Lyle’s #1 prescribed choice for crowd control all throughout the game! Just remember that Lyle is not responsible for Web’s ineffectiveness on Fire Mephits and Giant races. Warning: Side effects may include nausea, cramping, nosebleed, kidney failure and vomiting. If Web lasts for more than 4 hours, please consult a physician)."

  • Weekly Poll

EverQuest just launched its progression server; a server offering a return to the good ol' days of EQ, circa 1999. Why should Vanguard: Saga of Heroes fans care? Because Vanguard is an apple that's falling not far from the EQ family tree. Do you miss the days of naked corpse runs and cross-continent treks? Our weekly poll takes a look at the way it was in EQ, and the way it's gonna be in Vanguard, and then asks the all-important question: are you old school?

"Once upon a time there was a game called EverQuest. It launched waaay back in 1999, and let me tell you, Sonny, it was no game for you wimpy World of Warcraft types. When we died, we didn't go running to our bodies as some untouchable ghost, nosiree! We returned nearly nekkid, to our bind points; and we had to trek across dangerous zones--without the protection of our gear, mind you--to retrieve our broken corpses. We didn't go flyin' everywhere, neither...we ran for miles through misty forests and across burning deserts to get where we needed to go. And we liked it that way."

    Let your voice be heard!

  • New Very Light Armor Guide

Great experience, and great gear; you really couldn't ask for more in your early to mid levels, and the level 20 armor quests give both of these! We are starting out our series of level 20 armor quests with the very light armor quests for the mages for both Freeport and Qeynos mages.

Once you reach level 20, it's generally a good idea to take a look at your equipment and determine if perhaps upgrades are needed. Lower level armor tends to start turning gray, and you aren't being protected as well as you could be. For mages, the very light armor wearers, stats are pretty important. Mages can't take hits anyway, so mitigation is the very least of your worries, you are going to want those bonus stats! With the level 20 armor quests, you can get good gear that is tailored to your mage stat needs, with a lot of emphasis put on intelligence and power bonuses. It just so happens, that along with decent gear, the armor quests give very good experience, and is a very worthwhile endeavor for that alone.
