  • MMORPG Travels to France to See Ryzom Ring

Our team at Ten Ton Hammer weren't the only ones to travel to Paris, France to get a look at the upcoming expansion to the Saga of Ryzom. MMORPG.com has posted their preview of Ryzom Ring.

Nevrax believes they can change the way people think about MMORPGs. When the Ryzom Ring launches this fall, The Saga of Ryzom will become the first major MMORPG with significant player created content. The Ring is a tool kit that enables players to craft, test and then launch their own quests and live content scenarios into the live game. Last week, we made the hop to Paris to see their progress.

Head over to MMORPG.com and find out what they have to say about Ryzom Ring.

  • Eurogamer Checks Out Hero Online

Yesterday Eurogamer.com posted a preview of Hero Online...

"He likes liquor. He never made a friend throughout his entire life. In his life crazed about martial arts, only one thing he considers to be his friend is the liquor. People say, you can find him pouring liquor in his mouth on days he killed another."

Such is the way of liquor-soaked MMO Hero Online "a masterpiece created by three generations of distinguished martial art novelists" that boasts a "complex combination of story content and plot twists, free from prearranged paths, that brings a whole new gaming experience" written by first generation martial arts novelist, Kum Kang.

  • New Plans On The Horizon...

Ultima Online's main page had this announcement this morning...

These are exciting days for MMORPG fans here at EA. With the acquisition of Mythic, the UO team will be working with the creative folks who brought us Dark Age of Camelot and are hard at work on the spectacular-looking Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. I’m thrilled that the UO team and Mythic will work together to forge Britannia’s future.

There is much to talk about with our new partners, and it will take some time to review and finalize our plans. Because we need to take that time, we are postponing the announcement that we were going to make this week. The in-game fiction cycle will take a break for a bit and will return soon.

    See you in Britannia,
    Darkscribe

  • 13 Screenshots and Dev Journals!

Stratics has posted two sets of screenshots that they have recieved from Sigil Games Online, makers of the much anticipated Vanguard Saga of Heroes. There are six screenshots and a journal of artists comments for Brennan's Stead as well as seven screenshots and a journal for Halagrad.

The Barbarians live in this area. The architecture, style and race is something that struck close to home for me, being Swedish and the elements being Viking-esque. Most of the architecture was built a long time ago. These people can be very...well....barbaric, but it is conveyed mainly through objects (cages where they keep prisoners, practice areas where they sword fight each other and practice archery etc). With the terrain, I wanted to convey a breathtaking view and capture a “mighty” feel when going with a sloped layout with pretty much all the buildings being on different levels, building up to a mountain peak.

Head over and take a look at these amazing shots and find out what the artists were thinking!

  • Two Exclusive Concept Images at RPG Vault

In their continuing look at Hero's Journey, RPG Vault has posted another Peek at the game. In this week's article we learn about the city of Quillmore and the verdant Grenmeer Lowlands around it in Simutronics' upcoming game

Once considered an outsider by the world's great power centers, Quillmore is now the last of the Old Blood cities, and finds itself as the keystone of Elanthia's restorative efforts. The remnant citizenry of hundreds of communities call Quillmore home and look to its ruling House to provide sanctuary in the wake of the Sundering.

  • The Unfinished Stories: Storyline in MMOs

How important is storyline in MMOs? In this week's Mercurial Thoughts, Mercurie considers the back stories in some popular MMO titles, and examines the role of story in expansions. How do you introduce a new continent into a game world? With a story, of course!

"Of course, Dark Age of Camelot is not the only MMO with a storyline. EverQuest has its own back story and the expansions their own storylines. For example, the Ruins of Kunark expansion involved the discovery of the continent of Kunark. Like the fantasy MMOs, Anarchy Online, which is a science fiction type game, has its own back story and its expansions their own storylines. An example of this is the Anarchy Online expansion Alien Invasion, whose story is exactly that."

  • Supreme Shamaning

Their super Mutant powers makes them into a formidable healing class with teeth. Repairer of vehicles, restarter of broken down cars, and attacker of enemies. A fierce all-around fighter filled with devotion.

"The healing and defensive skills of the Shaman make them powerful enemies in battle. However, Shamans can manipulate the Contamination in other dangerous ways, giving their attacks a dazzling appearance. They possess the normal arrangement of Mutant offensive capabilities, and also use their phaseforming ability to create devastating spiritual attacks, as well as spawn phase-formed mutated creatures at will."

  • Coyotee Interview with Huang the Title Vendor

Coyotee Sharptongue follows up on rumours of odd titles being given out in the Village of Shin. Join him, as he gets to the bottom of this story, and finds the truth behind the Tower of the Four Winds.

"What is in a name, and does a rose called by any other name - still smell as sweet?" A large Kerran holds a microphone as he looks intently into the camera.

"For some a title is a badge of honor. A moniker earned through battle and deed, a named to be held in awe and reverence, the purest token of respect." The cat man continues as he shakes his head, his expression darkening.

  • Death In Solitude?

So, you think Kiara can only die record breaking numbers of times in a group? HAH! You are sooooo wrong. Dude, she can totally die just as well, if not better soloing!!

A while back I wrote a funny (I hope so anyway, if you hated it... just lie) little piece about the perils of grouping. At least for me anyway. So, I got to thinking and decided it was time to toss out my two coppers about soloing. Since, ya know... you either solo or you group...
