The podcast should be available this afternoon. Our crack team of "proof listeners" are checking it out this morning. I have some cool swag to give away and I think the best way to do it is to dole it out to folks who send us a question for our next podcast in .mp3 format.
Another MMO has entered the fray. Congratulations to the team at Duplex systems, the developers of Face of Mankind.
They are in tough against the 800 pound gorilla we call World of Warcraft. Blizzard pushed out patch 1.10 yesterday with the expected results. The servers were down for most of the day as issues arose from the major changes to the game. Priests should be happy as their talent revamp was put on the live servers. Will we see an explosion in the priest population? Perhaps for a week or so, but I don't expect that the changes are going to make priests more appealing to a player who didn't already have the "healing gene". Time will tell. The patch and the patch notes are available on our World of Warcraft Communit Site.
Questions? (.mp3 format if you want in on the swag give away) Send them in.

"In Dungeons & Dragons Online, the city of Stormreach can be a dangerous place. At no time is that more apparent than when the disorderly and disgruntled Talenta halflings are running amok. • The Story of Four Fiesty Halflings...and Why Karma Bites!

In Dungeons & Dragons Online, the city of Stormreach can be a dangerous place. At no time is that more apparent than when the disorderly and disgruntled Talenta halflings are running amok. To find out why bashing a backpack-chewing disembodied skull with an unnecessarily large splintering maul (while your friend is still wearing said backpack) equals a really bad idea, check out episode 2 of DDO - TenTonHammer's weekly series from funny-man Orogurath.

Back in the crypt, the remaining three howled with laughter at the stain that represented Gurblebag’s ill-fate, then moved on to new excitement. It quickly occurred to all of them that the fastest Halfling would end up with the most loot, and a race began while they crushed every standing object within the catacomb.

Check out Episode 2 of "Enter the Halfling." You'll laugh, you'll cry...you may even develop painful gas. (We assume no responsibility for the latter.)

  • PvP versus PvE?

Today's article wraps up this month's Tuesday's Take highly debated topic of whether Sigil should heavily integrate player-killing as a form of character advancement, or concentrate on cooperative player vs. environment (PvE) gameplay.

For me the appeal of a PvE environment lies in the cooperation with other characters in completing quests. The only opponents one might face are the various mobs that might get in one's way. For me the appeal in PvP lies in the competition with other players and the threat of being attacked at any moment. I suppose one way of looking at it is PvE is like The Hobbit. The only real threats come primarily from outsiders. On the other hand, PvP is like Sin City. Threats can come from, well, anyone...

  • Can you believe it's been 2 years? My how time flies when you're having fun.

What better way to honor and celebrate than to have a sweepstakes of heroic proportions? That’s right – to celebrate City of Heroes®’ birth month, we’re giving away a prize a day for the entire month of April, and it couldn’t be much easier to win! All you have to do is log into City of Heroes® or City of Villains™ (doesn’t matter which) once each day – it doesn’t matter for how long – and you’ll be eligible to win the prize for that day. Out of all the people who log into the game once everyday from April 1st to April 30th between the hours of 12:00am to 11:59pm EST (you can log in more than once, but it won’t increase your chances of winning), one winner will be randomly chosen! We told you it was easy!

  • GameSpy reports on Richard Garriott’s GDC lecture, where he spoke candidly about the trials and tribulations of Tabula Rasa’s development history.

In any case, Tabula Rasa never even had a chance to take a serious crack, due to a fundamental disconnect in the team's cohesion. According to Garriott, it was a case of too many chefs in the kitchen. There was hierarchy in place at the studio, but even those occupying the lowest rungs were pretty distinguished unto themselves, which hurt the team's ability to delegate and execute on tasks on a very fundamental level.

I guess that the only thing I can say is.. read this article. Having heard Garriott speak, this article embodies his lecture. Read it here.

  • IGN has the new Ground Zero Dev Diary for your perusal.

In the development of Auto Assault we just didn't want PvP to be a place where players go and fight outside of the normal game world. For those that want to do that and take place in a ladder system, we do have that kind of PvP gameplay with the Arenas, but we wanted something that put the players into the much larger conflict between the three races. That's where Ground Zero comes in.
