Yesterday the topic was podcasts. New-fangled audio "books" that allow those without the time to sit at a computer and read the gaming blogs stay in touch with the industry.
Let's take a step back, to books. You remember those right? Paper, words, mixed into a visual that you read. No computer is needed. I know it sounds crazy, but it is true. One such book, The Theory of Fun, written by Raph Koster of Sony Online Entertainment is about games. There my friends, is our common ground.
Raph has written a post-mortem of his experience writing the book
. For those of you who always thought that writing a book might be in your future, I suggest you read his article. Keep in mind that he was pressed into writing this book and didn't feel at the time that it was something he was up to doing.
When our podcast is done, out the door, and the door has slammed shut on it I may write a post-mortem of that experience. I have a whole new level of appreciation for those that can produce a podcast every week. Gaming Steve mentioned that it takes 10-20 hours per week for him to produce his podcast. Think about that the next time you fire up iTunes and listen to your favourite game site entertain you.
Post-mortem, what about the pre-mortem. Your novel goes here.
