Super Bowl XL and all of the hype that went with it is over. I didn't watch it. Football wasn't a big deal where I grew up and I never acquired a taste for watching the game.
It did make me wonder why MMOG developers haven't built more games into their games. That sounds ridiculous, building a game within a game, but I think it would have great appeal. The Guild Wars ladder system kind of, sort of, maybe is a start. Ranking guilds against other guilds, no matter how you look at it, adds a lot of good things to a MMOG experience. Ranking players, like the World of Warcraft battlegrounds system also gives players another avenue to experience, compete and enjoy. As flawed as the WoW battlegrounds ranking system is, it keeps people paying their monthly fee.
What if PvP didn't mean warfare? What if your Star Wars Galaxies guild could play some futuristic sport against other guilds? What if your WoW guild could play football against another WoW guild? What if there were more ways to compete within a MMOG than warfare? Heck, poker is all the craze and probably one of the easier competitions that could be added to a game. Why not give it a shot? Players want to be entertained.
Maybe it is just crazy talk, but a MMOG just boils down, at the core, to entertainment. Segway to our exclusive network content that asks, "Do you play with yourself?" Our editors answer that question, so read on... down the page... past the movie...keep going.
