Ten Ton Hammer

  • I think the Germans call this a "doppel-pwnage"...

Even come across another player in the World of Warcraft Battlegrounds that you own completely, yet they keep coming back for more punishment? Ever wonder what makes them tick? Our nefarious newsie Awenyddion has been playing WoW a lot lately. Recently she ran into one such person in the Battlegrounds and just had to find out what made them keep going.

Ten Ton Hammer recently started a guild on the new Sen'jin server. I've been playing World of Warcraft on and off for the year that it's been live. In all of that time I've never entered a BG or willingly PVP'd. That all changed this weekend when the new crew convinced me that it was fun. They were right! It was an exhilarating experience of non stop action. At first I spent a lot of time running around in circles in a panic and then after the second time I found myself in the groove.

During the third Battle Ground (WSG) I found myself with a nemesis. He was a level 19 human rogue who thought he could take the flag from me. I killed him every time but he kept coming back. I had to talk to him! I needed to know what was driving this player to commit virtual suicide over and over… and over again. After some digging and delving I finally was able to get in touch with this character (Whom we'll call Spanky) to find out what made him tick. The conversation went as follows.

Otherwise known as Awen's bid to become the Alliance "public enemy number one "on the Sen'Jin server, check out BattleGate - Horde Wins a Conspiracy or Alliance Just Inept? at WoW @ TenTonHammer!

  • Hammer Time!

If you just imagined a guy dancing in baggy pants and yelled "Stop!" - sorry about that. This time we are talking about a real hammer...well ok, a virtual hammer. Just get that song out of my head!

EverQuest 2 @ TenTonHammer sat down with master Carpenter Adeste and discusses how this class is perceived and what improvements are warranted.

    RadarX:
What drew you to this class? Why Carpentry over some of the more popular classes like Sage?
    Adeste:
What drew me to carpentry is the tangible outcome of my work. In all the other tradeskill classes, you don't end up with something you can place and see and touch and admire. Nothing else results in a physical object added to the world. Classes that make consumables - like spells, poisons, and food - seem very ephemeral to me. Even classes that make equipment for others, such as weapons and armour, aren't as satisfying. An adventurer will wear the item for 10 levels, then sell it to a vendor, and it'll be gone as if it never existed. But furniture is forever, and can be enjoyed by everyone who sees it, not just the wearer.

  • Xerin doesn't work for NCSoft...

But he, like the rest of us, is anxious for the release of Auto Assault. So much so that he put together a comical "Top Ten Reasons to Pre-Order Auto Assault." Why a top ten list, you say?

I was thinking the other day that Auto Assault needs more top 10
lists. Everything needs more top 10 lists, well everything except
penguins. So I sat around for awhile and polled my audience of
stuffed animals for reasons why you should and shouldn't pre-order
Auto Assault. The responses varied but it was mostly silence. Since
the audience was probably taking a nap, I went and wrote out my own
top 10 list. After about eight days of working on it, I finally
finished my masterpiece. Now if only I could only make a top 10 list
for reasons not to make top 10 lists.

Well, ok, but what about some reasons not to pre-order? Xerin has you covered! Here's my personal favorite, but there's plenty more where this came from:

    4) Pre-ordering supports people who work for video game selling places!!!!
We all know video games are bad for you. Why support people who sell them? I played a game once then went and ate some Turkey in a sandwich. Someone said “THAT TURKEY DIDN’T HAVE A CHANCE” and I thought to myself… “I wonder if that turkey would have had a chance if I didn’t play that video game.”

ArenaNet Opens Up Highly Anticipated Game to Global Beta Test and Announces Pre-Order Availability

BELLEVUE, WA (February 9, 2006) – ArenaNet®, creators of the #1 selling online roleplaying game Guild Wars®, and NCsoft® Corporation, the world’s leading developer and publisher of online computer games, announce today plans for a landmark event to preview Guild Wars Factions™, the highly anticipated follow up to 2005’s critically acclaimed game Guild Wars. On March 24, 2006, game players around the globe are invited to participate in the Guild Wars Factions Preview Event, an exclusive and one-time opportunity unlike any offered before.

All current Guild Wars players can join the event, and will be able to invite up to three of their friends using an in-game invitation interface. Entry into the beta event will also be available through the Guild Wars Factions pre-order package, which will include the Guild Wars Factions (GWF) pre-order CD, a GWF beta access key, a “friend” key that allows access to the beta event, a 14-day, 10-hour trial key for the original Guild Wars game, a tactical guide, and a quick-reference card. The Guild Wars Factions pre-order key also adds one unique item for each of the game’s two new professions, the Ritualist and the Assassin, and authorizes the user to play Guild Wars Factions 24 hours before the game’s street date in spring 2006. The Guild Wars Factions pre-order package will be available in retail stores nationwide beginning February 28.

A game beta test of this size and scope has never been offered before and is a unique event for both fans and the ArenaNet team alike. With current Guild Wars players, their invited friends, and players around the world who purchase the GWF pre-order converging on the game for the Guild Wars Factions Preview Event, ArenaNet is preparing capacity in all its data centers to handle record-breaking numbers of new players.

“To be able to open up Guild Wars Factions and share this one-time experience with so many people is truly a thrill,” said Mike O’Brien, ArenaNet co-founder. “Guild Wars players will get the opportunity to play Factions before the game’s release while sharing the game with up to three of their friends. We can’t wait for the feedback from the seasoned players, as well as those who join us for the first time on March 24.”

A Chinese MMORPG, Yulgang has announced a new concurrent record user number of 260,000. This is quite an impressive number and lead me to trying to find out something, anything, about this game. It appears that any game information is a secret closely guarded by the alleged 9,000,000 players. Note I wrote players and not subscribers. The game is free, making money off the sale of virtual items within the game.
While North American games do everything in their power to hold back the tide of the secondary market the Chinese have decided to embrace it, doing away with the subscription fee altogether.
It's a crazy, mixed-up world, but it's Friday, so get your work done, get home and get playing.
