  • Is technology wasted on barbarians?
Funcom blogs in to IGN to discuss some of the tech behind Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures.

When Funcom decided to embark on Age of Conan - Hyborian Adventures (Conan), we needed to take a serious look at our technology base. Despite the fact that we are one of the companies in the world with the longest experience in developing online RPGs, we truly had to evolve to the next level with Conan. You can never rest on your laurels in this industry, so we simply had to make sure the game would shine in today's extremely competitive landscape.

  • New interviews on the Horizons.
RPG Vault sits down with Peter Beagle, the renowned fantasy author recently hired to write for Horizons: Empire of Istaria, as well as David Bowman, Creative Director for Horizons, and Connor Cochran, Beagle's publishing editor and friend. While Beagle is new to the gaming industry, he's optimistic:

Peter Beagle: As I warned the first university class I ever taught - a screenwriting class at the University of Washington - 'You guys are my guinea pigs. I'm undoubtedly going to be learning on you, and making all my mistakes on you, and I can only ask your patience and your indulgence while I'm doing it.' I was immensely proud when a couple of students came up to me at the end of two quarters and assured me, 'Boy, did you learn!' I hope to earn the same reward with Horizons.

It's a slow day for news. Apparently everyone took the day off to eat turkey and visit with the family members they would otherwise not come within 100 feet of.
Speaking of not coming within 100 feet. I rolled up an Alliance character in World of Warcraft to see what the PvP Battlegrounds were like from the other side of the coin. It may just be the server I play on, but I felt like I had lost 50 I.Q. points just trying to get the Alliance team to form a raid. I guess I was spoiled by playing Horde, who were organized and actually communicated during the matches. This phenomena is worth some research and possibly even an article.
Have any of you had a similar experience? I'd love to hear about it, and possibly pick your brains about the reasons why this is the case.
Don't forget that we have a fantastic interview with the Sigil Games Online Community Manager, Cindy Bowens posted.

  • It might look just like this...or nothing like it.
Turbine has posted some new Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar concept art on the official site.

" These are two of several styles of armor found in LOTRO, as worn by a Man of Eriador. (In the game, players can wear armor designs from another race, if they so choose. Hobbits, being peaceful folk, have not developed an armor style of their own.) However, armor takes skill to wear effectively, and only certain classes will have the appropriate skills for some armor-types. "

How many Americans are in the crowd? Could I have you raise your hands please? Lots of you! Happy Thanksgiving!
We are seeing our first snow of the year today. Time to get the sled-dogs back into fighting shape so we can get to the grocery store. I use a satellite connection (painful on a good day) to update the news and today with the snow the connection is up and down...mostly down. My apologies for the late "Loading"
A fantastic interview with the Sigil Games Online Community Manager, Cindy Bowens is posted. I met Cindy for the first time at E3 last year and she may have been the only person at the show busier than Phil and I.

  • Getting virtual dates with virtual women who are really men.
1UP has a great article titled, "Tokimeki Memorial Online Cafe", which is only a slightly better title than my favourite, Super Happy Fun Date Online Cafe. The article takes a look at a MMO by Konami that revolves around going back to school and trying to pick up girls. What more can I possibly say about this?

" Tokimeki Memorial is Konami's famous dating/school simulator series. In the various games of the series, you lead the life of the average school kid trying to balance getting good grades with getting good dates. Building on the legacy but thinking progressively, Tokimeki Memorial Online is the next step forward. Now instead of trying to pick up on AI anime girls, you can try to date human girls...that umm...look like AI anime girls! --and are most likely guys in reality. "

  • If you looked like a bat and had super powers you would be a villain too.
About.com has posted their review of City of Villains. .

" Ever since the release of City of Heroes last year, people have been leaping tall buildings in a single bound, outpowering locomotives, taking the law into their own hands, and exploring their alter egos as virtual superheroes. With the launch of City of Villains, NCSoft and Cryptic have made good on their promise to let you play the anti-hero. No more coming to the rescue of purse-snatching victims, this time around you will be robbing banks, carrying out hits for the mob, and pummeling everyone that gets in your way with a disregard befitting a criminal. • Hey baby! What's a High Elf like you doing in a dump like this?
The L.A. Times has posted an article titled, "Meet me in the dungeon" that delves into the community building that takes place in MMOGs. New friendships and even romance are areas that Susan Carpenter touches on. .

" IMAGINE: It's a Monday and you're speeding down a rainy street in a stolen yellow cab, trying to rescue some fellow thugs who are under fire by the Liberty City P.D. Your tough guy rep is at stake on these crime-infested streets. Anyone who gets in your way gets run over. The next day, your squadron is attacked by a droid army. Even though the Wookiees and Jedi Master Yoda come to your aid, you lose plenty of good men. But there's an opportunity for a comeback later in the week. Somehow, you manage to rack up 112 yards and score a couple of touchdowns — despite a so "
