Ten Ton Hammer

  • MMORPG.com's hero remembered to take his camera on the journey.
Today's screens from the good folks at Simutronics feature a rogueish-looking player about to pounce on two unsuspecting orcs and a moment's rest in a forested setting. I'm very impressed with the character modeling- these designs look different than anything else out there. Here's what MMORPG.com has to say about their exclusives:

In this week's featured screenshots from Hero's Journey we see both a familiar desert scene and a player-character ready to pounce in our first look at a desert.

Take a look at the new Hero's Journey screens at MMORPG.

  • In a desert of flames one reviewer finds his way to the oasis.
Strategy Informer has posted a review of EverQuest 2: Desert of Flames.

" The Desert of Ro from the original EverQuest is back in a new and exciting form as the Isle of Ro.  Here players will find the city of Maj’dul along with numerous dangerous and hazardous areas to roam through.  Many of the themes from the Desert of Ro are still intact, but most are tweaked in some way or have been enhanced.  There are still many vermin madmen running around and many Sand Giants everywhere.  The Isle of Ro, however, is a dangerous place for beginners; it is geared towards high-level players around the level 45 and up. • The Ryzom Ring, notably absent from CLR advertisements is almost here.
CLUNK! Another press release dropped into my mailbox, this time from the good folks at Nevrax, the developers of The Saga of Ryzom. The Ryzom Ring has entered alpha test phase!

    "Paris, FRANCE - November 15, 2005

Nevrax Paris, the developer and publisher of the massively-multiplayer science fantasy game, The Saga of Ryzom, announced today it had launched the first of its extension pack alpha-tests for the ground-breaking RYZOM RING. The initial tests will occur online and will involve long-time Ryzom players, as well as Nevrax staff.
The RYZOM RING expansion offers players of The Saga of Ryzom a complete set of simple and supple tools to design and implement adventures and maps, empowering them to imagine, create, launch, share and enjoy an almost infinite combination of online scenarios.
It's the first time that a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game has offered its players such a large scale creation and editing platform.
    From alpha-test to launching
Beginning with about 50 players, new players will be continually added to the testing team until early 2006, when the Ring will enter it's bêta phase and will welcome all of The Saga of Ryzom's paying customers into the testing phase. Also in Q1 2006, there will be further open bêta and load testing before the Ring's official launch by the end of the 1st quarter.
In the meantime, a new website is currently being created at URL www.ryzom-ring.com, which will inform all players and testers of the status of the Ring Test, and which will also soon contain new communication and monitoring tools for all the testers and our future "creators".
"Ryzom Ring is an extremely powerful extension pack," says Daniel MILLER, CTO and Executive Producer of the Ring. "The opportunity is finally given to the players to become not only players, but creators." Miller added, "Ryzom's future is from now on in the hands of players."

I can't remember the last time that a MMOG got to public beta without me hearing about it. Well folks, it happened today and I'm quite sure that I saw the third horseman of the apocalypse ride by my window. Flyff, yes Flyff is in public beta. What is Flyff you ask? Well, it sounds like a bathroom tissue or maybe a person who works backstage in the porn industry, but it's not.
What I do know is that Flyff has a character named "Comedian-Clown", which seems to me like a complete rip-off of Martha Stewart. Personally, I don't want to play a game that has anything to do with Martha Stewart, but I'll go check it out, just in case my crack detective work is off the mark.
In other news, our EQ2 Birthday Contest winners have been chosen and the results were simply amazing. Do yourself a favour and check out how creative EQ2 players are.

  • A poster? When someone loots a new car, let me know!
Project Entropia, the renegade real-life mixing MMO that was the first to move to a dollars for in-game currency scheme, is now reporting that a player named Starman looted a real-life poster, which will be mailed to his residence. Fortunately, there are no plans to make zombie parts real-life lootable.

This package in particular was looted by Starman a few days ago, and contains a real life poster which will be sent to him. What the poster look like (sic), it doesnt say.

Check out the real-world loot announcement at EntropiaForum.com.

  • How do the dragons fit down those tiny tunnels to get into the dungeon in the first place?
Dungeons and Dragons Online received twice the loving today with previews posted on both GameDaily and MMORPG

" Recently, I had the opportunity to attend a press event for Turbine’s Dungeons and Dragons Online: Stormreach. Before I even left, I knew what to expect. I was told that the game’s lead designer, Ken Troop was going to give us a brief overview of the game before we ourselves would have a chance to sit down in front of it. "
