    1UP has posted an All Points Bulletin preview. Davey Jones asked me to take the last train to Clarkson and he'd meet me at the station, but when I arrived the only thing there was this note:

    Today is the first day of school for my son. Tomorrow is the first day for my daughter. Big times around the Hoskin household as the new shoes, backpacks and other school paraphenalia are polished and placed for the rush to the bus.
    Today is also the first day after the Labour Day weekend and designates the begin of the gaming rush to Christmas. How will World of Warcraft and EverQuest 2 handle the new titles that will be launching this fall? Will the delay of Dungeons and Dragons Online and Auto Assault hurt or help them?

  • While the thought of "Counters" and "Smiting" might bring back early Parochial school memories...

    ...these are also terms used to descrbe important aspects of Guild Wars strategy. Even after the recent updates, smiting is the most common offensive technique employed on the scene. Important to note though, is that many good teams are not predominantly using smiting! Learn about the prominent cases of smiting, and the counters that can shut it down. Do your part to bring variety back onto the scene of Guild Wars!

    The current scene of smiting involves an Elementalist/Monk using fast recharge skills and Zealot's Fire, which takes advantage of using enchantments and Ether Renewal to keep up both energy and health with every cast, while dealing significant damage. Seems unfair? Many people feel that Ether Renewal should be changed, or rather, rebalanced.

    ToTheGame has posted some Auto Assault Screenshots. Mel Gibson would neither confirm nor deny that he was tougher than Vin Diesel. He did send the following along for posting:

  • Patience and PAX

    Patience of the LotRO dev team posted her reflections on her side of the Turbine team's experience at the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX). We like Turbine, they hand out lots of free stuff!

    As a special treat for PAX, we also showed a couple of things we didn't show at E3, even though they existed in the E3 build. We teleported to a prototype area of the Shire, with what might be a very familiar-looking windmill, horses, and clothesline to some of you who pay attention to the screenshots on the LOTRO site, and also to the Old Forest, to pay a visit to a sleeping Old Man Willow. This wasn't in the plan, but we just couldn't resist showing off a little bit more of the game. What was even more gratifying was being able to tell people who were blown away by the environments that the build is 5 months old; it looks even better these days, since the engine and a lot of the art has been updated (I was looking at the current build this afternoon in the QA pit and was pretty blown away myself by how beautiful it is, after being in the "old" build all weekend!).

    The Official Final Fantasy XI website has posted a list of upcoming changes to the fellowship system. Chocobo riding, anime loving, final fantasy fans surrounded our offices this morning chanting the following:

    GameCloud has interviewed the NP Cube team about their in development game, Dark and Light. Jennifer Lopez mooned us while showing the insurance policy on her arse before saying:
