The Elder Scrolls Online Ask Us Anything Tackles Roleplaying

Posted Mon, Jul 29, 2013 by Martuk

The Elder Scrolls Online team’s latest collection of questions from the community takes on concerns about roleplaying, server restrictions and privacy.

It’s time once again for another round of answers to community questions from The Elder Scrolls Online team. This week the crew sets their sights on addressing questions and concerns on the topic of roleplaying and regional server requirements for EU and US players, which the first answer takes down concerns for the latter right away.

Will the megaservers dedicated to PC/Mac players be one megaserver for the US and one for the EU, or will it be one megaserver worldwide? Our community is worried that the friends they have made from either side of the pond won't be seen on their server.

We do plan on having one megaserver located in the US and one in Europe for PC and Mac players, but you won’t be forced onto one or the other. You’ll be able to play with your friends, but it’s important to note that you may encounter higher latency if you choose to play on a distant server.

Some other things to note in the lengthy Q&A include the confirmation of /emote commands and no chat bubbles at launch. There will be a number of customization options for characters, but that point wasn’t expanded on too much as of yet and fans of past ESO games will be happy to know that there will be a day/night cycle and weather fitting to areas like the snowy Skyrim. Players that are fond of roleplaying can even share an ale in Cyrodiil with enemy factions at their own peril, but there are currently no plans to allow cross-faction grouping. You can, however, chat with opposing factions through certain in-game systems.

If you like playing alone once and a while, Zenimax also confirmed that you’ll be able to play as invisible for some alone time.
