Blizzard’s upcoming new title currently codenamed Project Titan may have some competition for the name. While it’s unlikely Blizzard ever intended to use the name Titan, this week it appears that some of their old legal opponents have trademarked the name themselves.

Respawn Entertainment, the studio originally founded by former Infinity Ward executives Jason West and Vince Zampella (West departed the company some time ago), who along with EA were embroiled in a rather long and nasty legal battle with Activision after the two were fired from their positions at Infinity Ward, have trademarked the name Titan for one of the studio’s upcoming projects. The studio is currently working on a sci-fi shooter project with publisher EA. Make of that what you will.

While we still have no idea as to what Blizzard is planning with their Project Titan short of rumors and speculation, it should be interesting to see what unfolds in the months to come.
