Deployment 8 Patch Notes

Deployment 8 is now hitting the Live servers of Richard Garriott's Tabula Rasa. When NCsoft brings the servers up, players will have lots of changes and improvements to look forward to. Some of the new content additions are:

-The Magma Caverns instance (level 44-46) off Torden Abyss has been reconstructed, with a brand new map layout, and entirely new missions.
-The CELLAR Arena (Coalition of Enlistees Likely Looking for Aggressive Retaliation) is now available to players for R&R, personal duels, and special community events.
-A new flashpoint mission, "Inspection at Skive Base" is available on Palisades.

Extended Maintenance on Live Servers

With Deployment 8 hitting the Richard Garriott's Tabula Rasa servers this morning, the expected downtime has been extended. Patching servers is a big job, and NCsoft wants to make sure everything is just right before letting the players back in.

This morning's maintenance window is being extended due to issues with the publish of Deployment 8 to the live servers. At this time we do not have an ETA on when the maintenance will be over. We apologize for the delay and hope to bring you Deployment 8 shortly.

Feedback Friday: How to Play Your Sniper

The devs of Richard Garriott's Tabula Rasa play the game too, as evidenced in this week's Feedback Friday. Addressing the concerns that the Sniper community have expressed with the changes to their class, Designer Lee Ridout took the time to write out his strategies for playing a Ranger/Sniper in the game's current build.

I use MMO key setup. You can actually find the client tweaks I use in the Newbie Guide that got published to the website a while back. Please read these as my ‘player builds’ and not my ‘Dev opinion of what players should do’. These are the builds that I find fun to play on live and during play-tests.

Vivox Voicing NCsoft Games

NCsoft has announced a partnership with Vivox to bring high quality voice communications to their games. While some titles already have an integrated voice communication system, such as Richard Garriott's Tabula Rasa. this partnership should mean a better overall experience for the players.

Players will have the ability to communicate with scalable, full featured voice within and across NCsoft games via an NCsoft branded game communication portal.

Bring Your Frying Pan to Work Day

Shouldn't everyone keep a frying pan in their desk drawer? NCsoft's Audio Director, Tracy Bush, does for those alien ship noise emergencies. Tracy creates the in game sound effects players know so well, including those in Richard Garriott's Tabula Rasa. The Austin-American Statesman posted a great interview featuring some of the quirky ways a game sound effect comes to life.

Mashing his teeth together with a mouthful of marbles, of course, isn't all fun.

"It hurt ... ," Bush said, "but it was a great sound at the end of the day."

No Copycats, Please

A Q&A with NCsoft Europe's Creative Director, Marc D'Souza, has been posted at developmag.com. As the European team builds from the ground up, their new game development philosophy is revealed. Don't look for a a rehashed MMOG from these folks.

I'm very much from the school of thought that says you build the experience from the ground up. Building from the ground up gives players an experience that is distinct from a pre-existing experience.

Server Disconnects Investigated

Currently NCsoft is investigating the cause of the disconnects being experienced on the 2 west coast servers for Richard Garriott's Tabula Rasa.

We are investigating disconnects on servers located at our LA Datacenter - Cassiopeia and Orion. We hope to resolve this issue as soon as possible. Thank you.

More information will be provided when a solution is discovered.

The Test server for Richard Garriott's Tabula Rasa just got a new member of the population. NCsoft has added a Level buff NPC to make it easier for all players to test all new game content.

Meet PTS Level Command. Level Command will be activated on the Public Test Server with Deployment 8.3 with one sole mission - to grant your character with levels and sweet cash! Don’t you wish all NPC’s were this way? At this time Level Command does not dispense logos, so for the time being, you will have to collect them yourself. Level Command is just part of several changes we have planned to make testing easier and more fun for Tabula Rasa players.
