Everybody likes new stuff. We like new stuff even when the "old stuff" is really not that old. This goes as much for the Lord of the Rings Online as for anything else. Update 2: Echoes of the Dead hasn't been out that long, and Turbine is already geared up and ready to launch Update 3: Lost Legends of Eriador near the end of May.

North American players will see this new content on May 23, and the EU crowd can expect to see it when the European operations are migrated to Turbine's new Global Service after June 1, when the Global Service goes live. And while Update 3 is not as massive as Update 2 was, it's still pretty sweet, and the devs were eager to show off their handiwork in a hectic playsession.

During our April 20th interview with Aaron Campbell and Adam Mersky, the fellas had a lot to discuss. As the Producer for the Lord of the Rings Online and the Executive Director of Communications for Turbine, Inc. (respectively), their first order of business was to discuss the 4th anniversary of the game. That discussion is detailed Here.

But they also wanted everyone to know that they don't intend to rest on their laurels and coast on the success of Update 2: Echoes of the Dead, released on March 21st. They're keeping the ball rolling with another batch of content, Update 3, which is scheduled to land at the end of May. So what can we expect from this as-yet-unnamed update? Lots, apparently.

With the Spring Festival having just ended, the Free People continue to celebrate their victories against the forces of shadow for the fourth anniversary of the Lord of the Rings Online.  And the devs have reason to celebrate as well - we got Aaron Campbell, Producer of LotRO, and Adam Mersky, Executive Director of Communications at Turbine, Inc., on the phone to talk about the festivities and about what's coming up for the game. In regards to the 4th anniversary of LotRO, Adam said, "It's been a killer 4 years for us and we're real happy to have made it to this milestone, as not many games have. Ironically, LotRO is still the baby in our stable, as we have a title that's turning 12 this year and a title that's just turned 5, but nonetheless we're still proud to be 4."

After completing the 3-man instances in Evendim and North Downs, "In Their Absence" takes us further along the path of the Gaunt-lord invasion in the wake of the disappearing rangers. More specifically, the continuing story deals with the machinations of Ferndur and Drugoth as they continue to assemble their own dark armies in the service of Sauron. And these fellows have had a bit more time to work their foul magics, requiring larger groups to end their black schemes.

Flush from victory after foiling Ivar Bloodhand's plans at Stoneheight, the heroes' story continues in the Trollshaws, where the entrance to an ancient, forgotten temple has recently been unearthed.
