The Blizzard model certainly doesn't compare to the Turbine model. Technically it is F2P - you can continue playing as a level 20 character as long as you wish without paying a subscription. The Turbine model (as seen in LotRO and DDO) however, sells you the entire game in small increments and paying cash is basically optional - devote the time to it and you can play the whole thing for free. The Blizzard model is more of an "all or (almost) nothing" proposition.
It's apples and oranges. Blizzard knows what they're doing. After resisting WoW for so long, I'm probably gonna download it and get in on this unlimited trial thing.
