I agree with most, that the launch was horrid. The game was unplayable, and that nearly killed the title.
SOE stuck it out, and I re-visited the game a couple years ago.
I found a massive game, that has a ton of great features, quests...It literally is one of the largest games I've ever played. Unique classes like the Disciple, that did not exist in other games (healing by beating on things, fun!). I played, and played.
Then I hit end game. The end game, is probably one of the worst grind's I've ever experienced.
To get the best gear, you don't kill raid bosses... Ohh you can kill those, and its good gear.
But the key, is a daily grind of turn ins, and farming, in one outdoor zone.
It killed the title for me, there were no updates, no promise of new content. Once in a while they would fix a bug.
What I will say though, is that they had the best customer service. I've never had better service than with this game. Quest break, and you lose some key item you need...petition and within an hour they fix you. Absolutely phenomenal.
So while I do understand why there is so much ire towards SOE. I think what gets lost is that, because of these mistakes, we all missed out on a really great game. I hope they do better this time around, but it missed its chance to make MMO history.
