I know not everyone had the same experience with it, but after being convinced no other game would ever re-ignite that feeling of magic and wonder for me, Vanguard did. Now to be fair, I was probably one of only 17 people in the country that happen to have the magic computer parts combination that I had no technical issues (dear gods, that was such a horrible launch for so many people), but as a result, I was able to enjoy the game at face value. It sucked me in like nothing since the original EQ and it's because of that, that I think it actually is possible for magic to strike more than once. Will EQ Next be the game to pull it off? I just don't know yet, but I certainly hope so. ^_^

There's never been anything stopping someone from moving on, but when it's becoming the norm to have customers wait days and weeks for responses (again, I'm not just talking about Neverwinter) with an FTP model, the option to just pick up and move on becomes less of a worry for these companies.

Not all the dungeons in the game are public, just a lot of them. And in ESO, there is no kill stealing - you just have to do at least 10% damage to it (or 10% healing on those that are attacking it) to get full credit. ;)

"it really made me feel like I had a sense of purpose and identity" - I really think this is the key to changing the way things are currently done. You're also 100% correct about other classes seeking pieces of equipment specifically to gain an ability others had, such as the Journeyman Boots. I'd like to see companies invest the time to make unique items like this that were less than easy to attain.

I understand bias completely. As you can probably guess, I was a dark elf necromancer on Morell Thule for years. You are also correct about the Iksar being a very cool race with cool lore. This is also something I'd like to see more of a comeback - lore that matters and with it, Kill On Site factions... another topic for later, hehe.
