I can't count the times i have seen people try and hand off violence to movies and video games. Event the blame technology one a bit higher got my attention. Truthfully it is true kids have always died, been violent, or killed others. Its not new its simply more highlighted now than any other point in history. Do some research, read some studies, and check things out. In a class i recently took we had to review a section in our text book with a series of studies done on a generational basis. Guess what, this generation though it seems like it according to the news has some of the lowest crime rates among kids and its dropping. Feel free to check my source the book is Game Development Essentials by Jeanne Novak and the studies are all done by a variety of sources in the book and can be confirmed as such.

I don't think technology, video games, or even tv and movies are to blame for violence. Grant it in a nut cases hands a lighter can talk to them and tell em to do things, but we're not gonna outlaw those either. People are afraid of 1 word its called responsibility. They shoot someone they say the game made me do it or the Rice Krispies called me chicken. As the OP stated its nothing new. This has gone on through the ages.
