Sorry but i strongly disagree or agree i don't know! (sorry for the english it's not my natural)
You forgot one thing about these 3 examples : these 3 games are not very good at all. but they all have something in common, a very strong fan based community of the setting : battletech, star wars, forgotten realms (dnd).
you know 15 years ago, each time a big movie was out, a game came with it and always a BAD one (yea i know about golden eye ). now a days it's not about the movies anymore, it's about our memory !!!
it's always the same : a small company scoring a lot of cash by cheap selling a fiction universe loved by a bunch of geek. because be honest these game are terrible... Most of the ppl playing it are die hard fan of the setting. So yea they want to be heard, and they deserve it...
ps : i don't think it's right to send a mail to a developer insulting him.
if you see free to play and a famous setting !! runnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn !
