Among other cool features, Champions Online
boasts a team of tireless scholars who chronicle your
character’s every move; from your very first meeting with the
Mayor of Millennium City to your findings on Foxbat’s
FoxBattle Bots, each and every detail is painstakingly scrutinized,
categorized and ultimately fed into UNTIL’s massive database
on superhuman activities. While we may never know the names of these
cape-less crusaders, it’s thanks to their efforts that
we’re able to earn a plethora of Perks.
Perks are a means of managing your achievements in CO, but Cryptic
Studios has taken that core concept one step further by allowing
players to use their accumulated points to purchase things like new
costume pieces, upgrades and more. We’ve put together a short
list of cool Perks you might come across in the game, so be sure to
check them out!

since our Champions Online
community site went live, the superhumans otherwise known as the Ten
Ton Hammer staff have been diligently putting together an excellent
collection of new
player guides, but we also
understand that many potential players are interested in hearing more
about what type of high end content the game will feature. With that in
mind, we recently sat down with Bill Roper to discuss what types of
challenges await players with the Nemesis and Omega systems.
Ton Hammer: You’ve mentioned that players can only have one
‘active’ nemesis at a time, but once
they’ve been defeated will you be able to revisit them later
definitely have ways you can reactivate nemeses where they break out of
Stronghold and you’ve got to go stop them again. We know that
players will want to be able to go back and revisit some of their old
enemies which is the reason we wanted to have these galleries so that
you won’t be making these villains that are just gone;
they’re there to be used again and again as players want or
as we come up with clever and evil ways to do so.

many MMOGs featuring pets allow your beastly companion to advance
alongside your character, Perfect World International has taken that
concept to a whole new level with Jade Dynasty.
The latest entry in Ten Ton Hammer’s series of exclusive dev
journals for the upcoming title is jam packed with details on what the
Pet Evolution system is all about.
Pet Evolution is the
upgrading of your pet’s stats and
appearance. Pets start out as a baby and can grow into
adults. Pets can be upgraded in appearance once they reach
grade 12, and then again at grade 18.

flying mounts are becoming more commonplace in MMOGs, Perfect World
itself apart from the crowd by allowing players to enter aerial combat
while flying high on their Flying Swords, Beasts or Wings. In a new dev
journal, project manager Jon Belliss discusses how players can earn and
use a flying mount of their very own in PWI.
Once your character
has taken to the skies, you will notice entirely
new sets of flying mobs to battle. Flying monsters actually give
players 1.5 times the normal experience points you get from fighting
ground based creatures. Flight is also conversely the best
for avoiding mobs as you travel—go as high as possible, set
your destination and off you go!

Unlike traditional MMOGs, characters in Champions Online
need not conform to rigidly defined classes, or perhaps more
importantly, the standard roles typically associated with a class-based
system. As you progress and unlock new powers, talents and advantages,
you’re free to pick and choose exactly what path your
character will ultimately follow.
Taking things one step further, the role you assume in combat can also
be altered through the use of Builds. The system is fairly robust and
allows you to switch between offensive, defensive, balanced or support
roles at the drop of an irradiated hat. To help players better
understand the impact each of these roles can make and how they fit
into the grand scheme of builds in CO, we’ve put together a
extensive guide on all things build related.
