I appreciate your point, but I don't think looking something up is cheating if a) the instructions are so vague as to force you to go looking or b) the game developer is publishing a strategy guide.
If the quest tells you to find Bilbo, but doesn't give you any clues as to his whereabouts then it's bad design. Well designed quests don't require people to look up the answers. The best designed quests can't be solved and then put "into the wild" for everyone to copy. I believe that in our lifetime we will see quests dynamic enough that they can't be distilled down to simple answers like "go to location 76,54 in Zone A".
I understand your point and your concern. I agree that significance is all that matters. Unfortunately for developers each gamer places a different significance on every aspect of a game.
A cross-game guild (We had one that played both EQ and DAoC) is one that has a presence in both games. You know that if you decide to try DAoC that you will be in a group of people much like the ones you played with in EQ. You have a ready-made group of friends so to speak.
Georff! Tell me that you are going to play AoC or Warhammer Online. It would be great to hook up with you again.
Gah, I have a first-edition signed book by Niven titled, Dream Park. Deg: You need to get on the horn to him and make this happen!
Shay, Very few caught that little change. Well played.
Volamunn: Here's the deal. I know what MMOG is in production, but I can't tell. I'd be hunted and exterminated. My industry cred as small as it is would be gone. ;(
Indeed. I'd hazard a guess that most test machines have Windows installed in its native directory.
Thanks for the explanation. I play EVE on a Mac, so my mileage is quite different than most players.
