I probably would have picked Rift for the same reason as Shayalyn -- SWTOR hasn't been out long enough for me to judge all aspects of the game. Also, I don't have nearly the same trust for Bioware that I did before they messed up the Dragon Age series by completely changing it between I and II. So I'll withhold judgment for awhile.
Personally, I would have picked Fallen Earth as having the best community. Someone is always willing to answer a new person's question and the help channel is kept clear for this purpose.

Sorry, I don't listen to anything SOE has to say about anything. Too many wrong turns. Now i just hold my hands over my ears and go blah, blah, blah until they go away.

Holy crap!
I agree Blizzard seems to be allowing for the "but I want to AOE all the time " DPS. There has been a lot of caterwauling from everyone about these types: tanks who get their threat taken away, healers who have to heal the jackasses, and the DPS themselves that top of the DPS meters is the be-all-end-all and that it is the fault of the tank and healer when things go awry.
This is a completely different stand on Blizzard's part from "suck it up, healers; play the hard way b/c we that's the direction of the game" a few months ago. Anything do to with lost subscribers, nah.

Ummmmm, I quit in April as did my spouse and sister and the couple of friends I played with. We all cancelled our accounts and haven't even thought about going back. That is ten accounts between us all. I haven't found anything to completely fill the niche WoW occupied, but neither did WoW anymore. Blizzard isn't devoting enough resources to the game; I was sick of hotfixes and tweaks and PvP imbalances v PvE. I hated griefers on RP worlds and the ugly community that has grown around it.
There are other games with nicer communities like LOTRO and Fallen Earth. I'll play those, thanks.

Leaving WoW has given me a chance to find other MMOs. This is a fun and interesting one. Best of all -- no elves!
