    The very outgoing Vladmiir, aka Paul Luna, took some time to talk to Vanguard Spheres and let us have a glimpse into his world. Now a GM, one is left wondering if there is any job over at Sigil Games Online that Paul hasn't tried!

    Always a smile and very mischievious twinkle in the eye, Paul criss-crossed us all over the building and back again, multiple times, to make sure we saw everything! Including Brad! So, while we're hoping that all the GMs are able to take part in the interviews, we thought it fitting to ask Paul to be first, and he graciously responded, but I expected that!

  • VGTact Talks With Steve Williams

    VGTact has posted an interview with Steve Williams, Associate Designer on Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. Keep reading to find out more about the much awaited Diplomacy Sphere.

    "From the several leaked beta newsletters, we've heard that Diplomacy is being revised and improved - can you comment on how Diplomacy is improving, and how major of a change it is?"

    Making the art of conversation 'fun' can be quite the challenge. Beta test feedback and our own internal review of the systems we had implemented showed that they needed a facelift. For this reason we sat down and took a good hard look at the ultimate decision-maker of the success of a system: gameplay. Going from that standpoint, we are moving closer to the concept of what I call "the dance of argument" - pushing and pulling on each other until one side comes out victorious.

    The playtests of the enhanced system that Zahariel and I have cooked up is like nothing seen before in an MMO - yet, we're building off the original system and the original vision of Diplomacy.

  • Darrin McPherson Talks About Paladins

    Sigil Games Online's Darrin McPherson chats with the folks at Paladins of Telon. Keep reading to learn more about the Vanguardian Paladin...

    Paladins of Telon - Other than tanking, what do you think will be the main aspects of a Paladin that will make them desirable to groups?

    Darrin McPherson - Paladins are our most defensively oriented Protective Fighter. They are very geared towards protection and augmentation of their group. They have auras that can heal, empower or protect their parties. They have heals and buffs, which you would expect, but they also have powerful rescue abilities. One of the themes that I wanted to go with for the Paladin was protection and retribution – You don’t want to attack a Paladin’s ally. Our Paladin is the least damaging of the classes in his archetype, except when he is performing rescues. A Paladin’s rescues deal damage to the offender, damage that is on par with or that exceeds the Warrior in some cases.

    Jeff Damron, an Associate Artist at Sigil Games Online, was kind enough to indulge Ten Ton Hammer staffer Niborea's questions about the artistic talent behind Vanguard: Saga of Heroes.

    Ten Ton Hammer: What skills do you feel are paramount to up and coming artists looking to break into the gaming industry?

    I don’t know all of the fancy words for it….light and form and shape and foreground and background, weight and balance, and this and that…you just need to know art and what looks good. The tools come second. You need to be creative because for as massive as a game as Vanguard is, you never know what you will be making from one week to the next.

    Lady Sirse, from our Vanguard @ TenTonHammer community site, had a chance a to sit down and talk with Senior Game Designer Darrin McPherson, better known as Talisker to most of the Vanguard: Saga of Heroes Community, at Fanguard last January. He shared some insight into two of the unique classes planned to debut in this much anticipated game. Darrin and Lady Sirse spoke about the Dread Knight and the Disciple...

    We moved on to chat about the Dread Knight. These two words are capable of sparking speculation in historic proportions. Happy to have a chance to dispel some of the growing misconceptions, Darrin said, “Think of Batman, or of Punisher, they are similar to the Dread Knight. They do what it takes to get the job done and then go back to everyday life. They aren’t evil per say, they just do what it takes.”

    Karas takes a look at the guilds in the Vanguard: Saga of Heroes community. This week he interviews Scrawl, Guild Leader of Titan Guild, and WyzWun, an officer in the guild. Find out about their history in MMOs, and why they are compelled to spend hours and hours running a guild!

    What things would you like to see implemented for guilds in Vanguard that you haven't seen done successfully or at all in other MMO's?

    WyzWun: I would say I am looking forward to guild created content, the type of content that I have only seen in a game like EvE online.

    Scrawl: I would be thrilled if they would put in fully functional guild halls. And when I say fully functional, I don't mean that you can throw pictures on the wall and put in a few chairs. I want to be able to tack up notes on the door that say, "Clerics wanted," or, "Guild meeting on Thursday." I want to be able to use my guild hall in a real way that actually adds not only to the functionality...but also to the immersion that the game can provide.

  • Spotlight on Vanguard's Den Beauvais, The Imaginator

    Raya sits down with Den Beauvais, Senior Artist for Sigil Games Online, the makers of the much anticipated Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. In the Behind the Scenes @ Vanguard series, she takes an exclusive look at the man behind the artwork.

    Whoever thought up the word "prolific" must have had Den Beauvais in mind. Den (whose nickname is "The Imaginator") is a senior artist at Vanguard. He is one of the artists who created the PC characters, plus many of the NPCs for Vanguard, and a man who thrives on work--his output is staggering. His own "highlight of the day" describes his state of mind.

  • Crusading, so you don't have to. locked Darrin McPherson of Sigil in a room and wouldn't let him go until he told us about Paladins in Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. Bridgette Fonda pouted and exclaimed:

    " Paladins, our defenders of light and all that is good. We've had a taste of what is to come with this noble class. However, we wanted more information. TinyRebel, our Paladin class specialist submitted these questions and concerns about the Vanguard: Saga of Heroes Paladin. We were fortunate enough to have Darrin McPherson, answer these questions for us. It looks like the Paladin is going to remain the trusty steadfast class that we've come to know and love over the years. "

  • Tell Us About The Toons.
    Vanguard Spheres has posted a Vanguard: Saga of Heroes Interview focusing on the character appearance. While getting more plastic surgery to change his appearance Michael Jackson screamed out:

    " Well, let me tell you about some of my favorites. As a huge fantasy fan I’ve always loved the classic Tolkien mythos of Elves and Dwarves and all that goes with Middle Earth. I’ve always wanted to bring his words to the canvas, just like every other artist with a passion for fantasy art. So, we’ll have those races, as most games of our genre do, but I do hope ours capture that spirit he gave them in a way that has not been done before in a game. We have modeled some amazing faces and body types. Currently, we’re working on more outfitting for them and adding animations. Body language is so important when it comes to communicating attitude, and that has to be done by hand, by an artist that can feel it. Mo-cap is a great jumping off point, for there are surely details there that are so subtle that no one could reproduce them in a timely fashion without aid. "

  • Vanguard Interview - Posted in an EQ Section.
    The Druid's Grove has posted a Vanguard Interview featuring Darren McPherson. Tree huggers were heard saying:

    "Myself, Darrin McPherson. Originally the Druid was a member of our healer archetype. Following traditional MMO convention was that the Druid was a nature healer. We reached a point in our planning not too long ago when we needed to make a change. One of our senior designers suggested that the Druid be moved to the arcane damage dealer archetype…and I really liked that. I have always loved the primal, natural disaster side of the Druid and that is the direction we are taking him. My favorite feature? That is still a secret…for awhile longer at least."
