I have almost always played support classes. I like being able to get into groups easily and I like the inter-dependence required within group dynamics (my therapist says I have issues).

Come find out which class Medeor enjoys most at Vanguard - Ten Ton Hammer.

  • Sigil Games Online’s Abigail Seashadow drops by to talk shop

Vanguard Ten Ton Hammer's Medeor attended Reverenced Ire's Ventrillio Chat last night and has submitted his report! Find out what his impressions of the chat, what Cindy "Abigale" Bowens had to say, the guild members of Reverenced Ire were... and more!

First I have to say a huge thanks to the Reverenced Ire guild for letting me sit in and interact with them. I talked with one of the founders early in the day (Xaices) and they are an engaging bunch where fun is to be had and disagreements can be aired without the “Shut up noob, go back to [fill in name of game here].” Well there was some of that tongue-in-cheek and they had some very constructive questions and comments for Cindy "Abigale Seashadow" Bowens.

Check out the Reverenced Ire interview at Vanguard - Ten Ton Hammer.

  • The Business of Keeping Things Fresh

Today is Common Content Monday across the network and we are all looking at those monthly fees MMOs charge to play. Are they good or bad? Do they affect how one plays the game? Do they have any benefit other than what some people assume is just to make the game companies rich?

It’s like going to your favorite bar and finding out that after years of enjoying their crisp cold beers, they’ve neglected to replenish the ice in the ice chest and slowly over time that beer becomes warmer and less enjoyable… unless you’re German, I’m told they like warm beer but probably not stale MMO's.

  • The Do's and Don'ts of Role Playing

This from our Vanguard @ Ten Ton Hammer community site. So you've decided upon a race and class that fits you.You tweaked the character creation tools until it was as perfect as you imagined. You have selected a server that fits your needs. You've even got a background history of your character and a cool name...ready to Role-Play?

Not quite yet...AnomalousSilence ends his month long series on Role-Playing with a look at the proper etiquette you need for great Role-Playing.

    • Role-play as often as possible in order to increase the immersion aspect of the game.
    • What would your character do? Live your character.
    • It’s the golden rule of gaming as well as life: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

So if you anticipate that you might want to give this a try in the world of Telon you won't want to miss this roleplay series finale at Vanguard - Ten Ton Hammer, and in case you missed any of the earlier parts to the Vanguard - Ten Ton Hammer series:

  • Combat, which leads to corpse runs...

Combat and Corpse Runs, the two main components that make or break a game for many players. Medeor takes a look at these two components and shares his thoughts on Vanguard's approach.

Vanguard: Saga of Heroes has latched on to this idea of chaining spells together for additional fun and excitement. If you put together the correct set of spells in the proper order, all the wheels of pain line up and deliver a truckload of damage. Those kinds of spectacular hits are the combat I want.

  • Mercurial Thoughts on Vanguard Role-Play

Today kicks off the start of new weekly editorial column. Mercurie opens up his mind to the community and shares his thoughts each Friday. Today he looks at the Role-Playing aspect of the game.

Do most people actually play their characters, much as an actor would play a role, or do they treat their characters simply as automatons meant to collect treasure, weapons, and experience?

  • Nib's "Need to Know" About Vanguard Art

Jeff Damron, an Associate Artist at Sigil Games Online, was kind enough to indulge Ten Ton Hammer staffer Niborea's questions about the artistic talent behind Vanguard: Saga of Heroes.

Ten Ton Hammer: What skills do you feel are paramount to up and coming artists looking to break into the gaming industry?

I don’t know all of the fancy words for it….light and form and shape and foreground and background, weight and balance, and this and that…you just need to know art and what looks good. The tools come second. You need to be creative because for as massive as a game as Vanguard is, you never know what you will be making from one week to the next.

  • It's all about playstyle...

This month has flown by, as evidence by today's content, our last installment of May's Tuesday's Takes. We asked the question "Harcore vs casual, how do YOU play and do you feel the game will accomodate your playstyle" and four of our writers have given their "takes" on it, today Lady Sirse wraps up this topic with her "take" in Does Your Playstyle Define You?

Casual gamers often look on these dedicated…for whatever reason…masses as arrogant loot mongers who will walk over their own grandmother’s to get the next uber drop. Conversely, the hardcore players look on those who play less than 40 hours a week in constant raids as weak, unworthy of being listened to or given any consideration at all. Think I’m joking? Take a look at most official forums across the gaming community and you’ll get a taste for what I mean.

  • This on the official site today.

Vanguard was recently featured on the cover of Computer Games Magazine and in that issue we included codes that will allow for closed beta access to the game. We add new beta testers in regular batches however we have not yet added any CGM codes. Because of the publisher change for Vanguard, we are discussing where the beta will now be hosted before we add any new people into the process. Just as soon as we have a solid date for a beta hosting change, we will announce it here. A reminder, however: the CGM codes will not all be activated at once. We will add people in batches and you must register the code you received in your magazine. Please follow the instructions here to register your code with us and we look forward to seeing you all in game just as soon as we can!

If you do not have a CGM code and you have registered on our forums hoping to be chosen for beta selection, you will still be considered for beta. We greatly appreciate everyone who is interested in helping us test our game and we’ll continue to add batches of testers in. Those who are selected will receive further instructions via email. However, just as with the CGM codes, we are not currently adding any beta testers from our forum registrations until we get more details about switching over to our new co-publisher.

We hope you will all remain patient with us while we get some of these new details hammered out. We very much appreciate that so many of you want to help us make Vanguard a great success!

While you're thinking about how much you love Vanguard, you can visit our Vanguard: Saga of Heroes Community.
