Vanguard: Saga of Heroes

  • The Lure of Lore

Mercurie of Vanguard - TenTonHammer takes a look at how lore in a MMO's seems to draw upon some of our own mythology, fantasy novels and folklore.

In other words, the lore can actually serve to comfort the nervous newbie who is just playing his or her first few hours of Vanguard. In drawing upon the familiar motifs, while making its own twists, Vanguard: Saga of Heroes insures that any player experiences the excitement of the new, while being comforted by something familiar.

  • Anticipating Some Memories

Merriandra takes a last look at Virtual Memories at Vanguard - TenTonHammer with In Anticipation: The Promise of Memories

It is true that we, as gamers, will never be as unsophisticated as we were in the early days of UO or EQ. I look at it as a progressive ladder, like my experiences on the first day of school. My first day of high school was completely different than my first day of kindergarten, and yet they both inspired fear, and anticipation, and a sense that something better was just over the horizon.

Make some memories with Vanguard - TenTonHammer while we all eagerly anticipate Vanguard's release later this year.

  • At Vanguard - TenTonHammer, Martuk addresses the playstyle debate currently raging in the Vanguard official forums: PvP vs. PvE.

The two play styles are similar, but also very different, and often times tend to find themselves at odds with each other. PvE players will refer to PvP players as Gankers and Grievers, while PvP players will refer to PvE players with such names as Carebears.

Should developers take care of player vs. player enthusiasts first, or concentrate on cooperative adventuring against AI mobs? It's PvP vs. PvE at Vanguard - TenTonHammer!

  • Sprucing up to max out Vanguard's potential

Today with the feel of spring on the air it's appropriate that "Spring Cleaning" was chosen as the topic of discussion at Vanguard - TenTonHammer.

While Vanguard: Saga of Heroes isn't released yet (though we're all eagerly waiting), there are inevitably a few things that any company designing an upcoming MMORPG could do to improve the potential of the game. Only three Spring Cleaning issues come to mind for Sigil, however. These include the one significant concern and two minor concerns.

AnomalousSilence tackled Vanguard's Spring Cleaning at Vanguard - TenTonHammer. Take a look!

  • Drunken dwarves? Vanguard? Woot!

Each Monday, the writers across the network tackle a common topic. This week is a wonderful spotlight on the communities of each of the games covered by Ten Ton Hammer. Today, Lady Sirse talks to The Drunken Dwarf who runs Vanguard Fighters. Find out why he has started up the only fighter specific site in the Vanguard: Saga of Heroes Community and much more.

Drunken Dwarves, sharp pointy weapons, stacks of armor, and a healthy growing community of those that love to tank could make you think twice before entering. That is until you take a look around. Rob, also know as TheDrunkenDwarf himself, is a bit taller than one would expect. Hard as I looked, I failed to see a tankard dangling off his belt or a warhammer on his back. What I did find was a very friendly and passionate gamer who stepped up to the plate when he couldn't find a site dedicated to the Fighters of Vanguard: Sage of Heroes

  • The Role of the Caster in Vanguard

Martuk, writer for Vanguard @TenTonHammer, leads us once again into what might be expected of the arcane casters in Vanguard: Saga of Heroes.
Played a wizard before you say? Well Vanguard looks to enhance some of the more traditional elements of the Arcane Caster...

There are several kinds of Arcane Casters in Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. Some are traditional classes, and others are new, or a bit different. These casters will not only have to manage their powers in battle so as not to overdo things, but they will also learn, through the use of the Perception skill, how to counter certain spells in some cases.

Do you know your role? The Arcane Caster's Role at Vanguard - TenTonHammer.

  • Practicing At Dawn

Niborea on the Vanguard @ TenTonHammer community site continues her series of incredible artistic impressions of Vanguard. This week's artwork shows a Kojan male practicing his monkly moves at daybreak.

Back in my day, monks finished their practicing and were kicking ass by dawn, but even i could draw a picture of a monk in the dark.

Instead, view Niborea's collection of original Vanguard artwork at "Nib's Digital Downloads" at Vanguard - TenTonHammer.

  • Does love make the virtual world go 'round?

I always it was just a day/night cycle algorithm. Nevertheless, Mercurie at Vanguard - TenTonHammer bring you his take on love, romance, and all things mushy in MMORPGs.

Humans have apparently been falling in love, well, as long as there has been humanity. Should it be any wonder, then, that love should play a part in MMORPGs?

How do you feel about love in the virtual world? Read the full article at Vanguard - TenTonHammer!
