  • With the game into Beta 2, everyone is on the edge of their seats to see what will and will not happen with this game. MMORPG.com was lucky enough to get an Interview with Brad McQuaid CEO of Sigil Also they have 2 exclusive screenshots for your purveyance.

MMORPG.com: Can you explain how raiding will work in Vanguard, given that there is no instancing? Would it be fair to assume that there is a very large amount of raid content?
    Brad McQuaid:

The majority of content in Vanguard will be group-oriented, with the minority being aimed at either more casual gameplay or the opposite, raiding. I don’t have exact numbers, but perhaps 60% or more of the content is targeted at the grouping audience, with another 20% or so at the more casual and then another 20% at raiding. The way to get around the need for “instancing” is simply to have enough content. There needs to be a lot to do, and a large world in which to do it. We plan to achieve this by creating a huge, seamless world, with every square foot filled with points of interest, quest content, and a myriad of dungeons.

By having both a large world and a lot of content, including huge dungeons designed to support multiple groups at the same time, we are confident that instancing those areas won’t be necessary. We feel that instancing removes the opportunity to socialize with other people, or to just stand back as an observer and watch a large group in an intense battle. We do appreciate though that people don’t want senseless downtime and we have a trick up our sleeves on this very point that we feel large groups will love.

  • You were all noobs once.
Moghedan Carns continues "A Hopeful Promise: My First MMO" with part 2!

" In Freeport for about a week, I slowly discovered little things…like the rest of Freeport and vendors. I managed to find my trainer listed in the note I had received on creation! I was even able to accidentally get inside the floating castle, where I discovered I could buy new spells. By this time, I had found my spell book and was able to use my spells again after death. Minor Shielding gave me one of those squares, so I used it all the time. Tishan gave me a wolf head square. Sadly, it never turned me into a werewolf. "

  • Your French lesson for today...

Ogaming is reporting that French Vanguard fansite "Mondes Persistants" has two new beta 0 screenshots posted. These might be about a week old; all the Vansites got some double screenshot lovin' from Sygil a little while ago. But since I don't speak French, we'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

Ed. note- In lieu of screenshot descriptions, we offer you the following prices for games (which is the only thing on the page we could understand): Asheron's Call 2 (presumably priced to sell fast)- 20 Euros, Horizons - 8,50 Euros, City of Heroes deluxe - 20 Euros. There ya go!

Two new(?) Vanguard screenshots at Mondes-Persistants!

  • Vanbois for teh win!
Sigil has announced that its opening up applications for beta 1 for everyone registered in its community forums before 10.13.2005. Vin Diesel never needs an application, by the way, he just walks right in to any beta he wants and immediately finds all the exploits.

" We will begin sending out emails today to everyone that has registered on our forum through today with an invitation to apply for Beta 1. Follow the instructions in the email and you are on your way!

Once you have submitted your application, your name will be added to our list of potential Beta participants. Qualified applicants will be selected for the program and added gradually, as we need more and more players throughout the course of Beta.

Please remember that this is an invitation to apply for Beta. If you qualify and are selected at any stage, you will be notified.

So check your email and submit your application! I am sure I will see many of you in Beta soon! We have been looking forward to this for a long time! "

  • Holy crap, Vanguard news!
A sweeping coastal landscape pic and some nice-looking treants are part of Vanguard's latest screenshot offering. With the complete lack of other Vanguard news and the official forums doing their broken record impression on old themes, we'll take whatever was can get!

"[Ed. note - Snippets can be a bummer when devs don't describe their cool screens. Using my investigative prowess, I was able to determine that the village pictured is Leth'Nurae, the coastline belongs to Ahgram, and the treants are, yes, actually called treants. Prowess in this case meant looking at the pics filenames, but there you go."

  • Crusading, so you don't have to.
TenTonHammer.com locked Darrin McPherson of Sigil in a room and wouldn't let him go until he told us about Paladins in Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. Bridgette Fonda pouted and exclaimed:

" Paladins, our defenders of light and all that is good. We've had a taste of what is to come with this noble class. However, we wanted more information. TinyRebel, our Paladin class specialist submitted these questions and concerns about the Vanguard: Saga of Heroes Paladin. We were fortunate enough to have Darrin McPherson, answer these questions for us. It looks like the Paladin is going to remain the trusty steadfast class that we've come to know and love over the years. "
