City State Entertainment co-founder Andrew Meggs posted a pair of new Kickstarter updates for Camelot Unchained today to demo some of the tech for the massive battles in the RvR-based MMORPG. Meggs first video demoed a 500 character battle on a 2011 MacBook Pro that still managed to run between 90-120 fps, which Meggs explained will only get better and allow more options for customization in the future. The second video update upped the number in the battle to 1,000. The FPS rate dipped to 30 at one point, but for the most part it managed to stay between 60-90 fps on average with spikes as high as 120.
All that said, the game is still early in its development and there are still plenty missing pieces from the picture such as magic spells, particle effects, background structures, and any other environmental element that may be found on the Camelot Unchained battlefield. Still, its a good start and if the team can keep it optimized and get funded, the new project should make for some promising RvR battles in the future.
Meggs did vow that the fps is only going to go up from here and that it will allow for the addition of more detailed models, environments, and more character customization options, which Meggs explained will be a very big thing in Camelot Unchained.
