"My God, it's full of...AAAUUUGGGH!"
When I watched the Xbox One live reveal I was...underwhelmed. Microsoft seemed to have demphasized the Xbox's original purpose--games. Not only that, but once I factored in the Xbox One's built in, updated Kinect sensor and always-online status, things became downright creepy. I'd have this thing sitting in my living room that could recognize and track my skeleton (it damn well better not guess my weight), monitor my heart rate, follow my gestures and recognize my voice. I barely want that sort of privacy invasion from my own doctor, and I sure as hell don't want it from my gaming...oh, excuse me, my entertainment console.
Gritty Reboots gets me. Their parody melding Xbox One with 2001: A Space Odyssey reflects my growing discomfort with the concept of the always-listening, ever-tracking Xbox One.
As the video points out, the Xbox One will know what you like. It might just know a little too well. There's nothing like turning on some TV to entertain guests only to have your Xbox immediately head for your extensive porn collection, certain that it knows what you want to watch, because that's what you always watch. And please, oh please, if you ever get your freak on in the same room with an Xbox One, don't let anything you say during the throes of passion sound like, "Call Grandma."
