Non-combat
pets, also known as
vanity pets in the World of Warcraft universe, are as most of us know, cutsie collectable creatures that
can be summoned to follow a player around. Up until now non-combat pets
have been mostly for show, unable to attack in the normal sense
non-combat pets are typically only for the enjoyment of the player who
they belong to. That’s not the say that non-combat pets do
nothing at all, on the contrary, many of them perform adorable tricks
or other crazy antics such as Sleepy Willy who will kill nearby
critters, or the Pandaren Monk who not only responds to various emotes
but performs various Kung Fu moves while idle.

However, despite their
popularity with many of the WoW populace, non-combat pets thus far have
done nothing extraordinary. But after BlizzCon 2011 it appears that
non-combat pets will have a bright new future in the game. With the
introduction of the Pet Battle System in Patch 5.0 players will for the
first time ever be able to actually “do” something
with their non-combat pets. That something will involve pitting
non-combat pets in battle against other players non-combat pets. This
new Pet Battle system is not only exciting to current pet collectors
but has drawn interest from players who in the past held nothing but
disdain for non-combat pets.

If your one of those non-combat
pet haters, or if you’ve just been slacking on your pet
collection but still want So if your excited about the Pet Battle
System, but have been slacking on your non-combat pet collecting then
now is the perfect time to get started on collecting some cool pets to
unleash upon other players. Not sure where to get started? Read onward
to find the top 10 easy to obtain, yet still cool (because nobody wants
lame pets), non-combat pets to get your on the right track with your
pet collection. Please note that all pets contained in this guide are
available to both Horde and Alliance players.

Chicken[/ps]

Once wildly popular, the
Mechanical Chicken, thanks to
the
super-quick leveling implemented by Blizzard, has become somewhat of a
forgotten novelty. However, the Mechanical Chicken is just as cool as
ever, simply put; everybody needs a Mechanical Chicken to use in the
Pet Battle System. Period. This chicken is a ground only non-combat
pet
that pecks aimlessly at the ground when idle. To obtain this
robo-chicken players will need to complete three escort
quests: Rescue
OOX-09/HL!, Rescue OOX-22/FE, and Rescue OOX-17/TN!.
After these three quests are complete players will be given one final
quest; [ps quest=3721]An OOX of Your Own[/ps] in Booty Bay, which
produces gives this
pet as a reward, gaining you a super easy addition to your non-combat
pet collection.

[ps item=69239]Winterspring

This cute little guy is not
only uber-adorable,
but has some pretty sharp looking teeth and claws which are sure to
come in handy in the Pet Battle System, so wouldn’t it be
nice if you could just…run out and buy him? Well
I’m here to tell you that you can do just that.
That’s right, this non-combat ground pet can be purchased for
the low, low price of 50 gold from Michelle De Rum. Michelle can be
found in the Everlook Inn in always chilly Winterspring and has an
unlimited supply to sell to those players willing to seek her out. Once
purchased you will notice your new pet will not only yawn and sit, but
will also lie down while idle. This lying down animation makes your
cuddly new friend appear to be dead, but don’t panic, run far
enough away from him and he will scamper to join you. Perhaps this
“playing dead” will be useful in future
pet battles.

[ps item=66080]Tiny

Every player wanted the Firefly
that dropped from the bugs in Zangarmarsh, but very few actually wanted
to spend hours farming for it. While this particular non-combat pet is
not
exactly like the Firefly, it is far easier to get, making it an
excellent replacement in my book. The Tiny Flamefly is an air bound pet
that flutters about and occasionally grooms its face while idle and
despite its small size is quite fearsome looking, making it a great
candidate for the Pet Battle System.

To add this non-combat pet to
your collection you must head to Flamestar Post in Western Burning
Steppes. After completing all the quests available at this hub, players
will be sent onward to Chiselgrip where they will need to once again
complete all quests from and associated with this quest hub. From here
players will be sent to their factions main questing area
(Morgan’s Vigil for Alliance and Flame Crest for the Horde)
where they will be able to continue the quest chain and eventually gain
the final quest (SEVEN! YUP! For the Alliance and Not Fireflies,
Flameflies for the Horde) which will offer this non-combat pet as a
reward. Sure this seems like a lot of work, but consider this; this pet
could easily be obtained while a player is leveling, or a higher level
player could easily knock these quests out in no time, not to mention
that this method is far more reliable, and less tedious than trying to
find the elusive Zangarmarsh Firefly.

alt="Pebble" style="padding: 25px;" height="94"

[ps item=60869]Pebble[/ps]

If you spent some time in
Deepholm questing, you have probably already met Pebble, a small stone
elemental who takes quite a shine to players once they feed him. I know
while I was completing the quest line involving Pebble I kept thinking
I
would love to have him as a non-combat pet, and it turns out you can.
To obtain Pebble as your very own non-combat pet you must first
complete almost every quest in Deepholm to access the daily quests at
Therazane’s Throne (most players already have this completed
which is why I consider this to be an “easy” to get
pet).

Once the dailies have been
unlocked one of the random dailies offered here by the quest givers
will be “Lost in the Deeps”. Complete this quest 10
times and you will gain the achievement
Rock Lover as well as a Pebble
for your very own. Remember, that this may take some time as this daily
quest is given randomly and will not appear every day. However, getting
a cool non-combat pet like Pebble just by completing the same daily
quest, even over a longer period of time, is fairly easy and well worth
it in my opinion. Just think of what kind of potential this little rock
may have in the Pet Battle System.

Taking you back to the days of
your past this non-combat pet is not only fun to have, but also easy to
obtain. Horde players will need to head to Orgrimmar where they will
find an NPC Named Jaga near the lake in the Valley of Wisdom, while
Alliance players must seek out Vin who can be found near the orphanage
in Cathedral Square, Stormwind City. Both NPCs will offer the quest
Blown Away! Complete this quest to get this awesome pet if for no other
reason than to garner amusement from attacking with a balloon in the
Pet Battle System. I know I will.

What could be more intimidating
than a creepy skull flying into battle once the new World of Warcraft
Pet Battle System
becomes available? The answer is just about nothing. The best part is
this sinister non-combat World of Warcraft pet is available for anyone
with enough gold
to purchase it. No questing, no reputation grind, just good old gold is
all it takes to make this pet your own and experience it in all its
floating chattering teeth filled goodness. The Ghostly Skull can be
purchased for 40 gold from Darahir in the north-eastern most room of
the Dalaran Sewers. To find Darahir and purchase this World of Warcraft
pet more easily, simply set your
mini-map tracking for “Reagents”.

World of Warcraft Pet #7:
Plump Turkey

In honor of the upcoming
Pilgrim’s Bounty
event I felt the need to add this gobbling
non-combat World of Warcraft pet. Not only is this pet an interesting
companion to have
along as you adventure about the world, but this turkey really
gets into the spirit of the holiday and will literally cook itself
whilst in the presence. Even if you don’t like the looks of
this non-combat pet, this turkey’s suicidal tendencies will
certainly make it an interesting candidate for the World of Warcraft
Pet Battle System.

To obtain this World of
Warcraft pet players will
have to do a bit of work and complete the Pilgrim meta achievement.
Don’t get to worried though, most of the achievements
involved in the meta are super simple and can be completed with little
real time or effort involved. Some of the achievements involved in this
meta are a tad bit more difficult, but not hard enough (in my opinion)
to take this pet off my easy to get list or to warrant not spending the
time to get this awesome companion. Once the Piligrim meta achievement
has been completed this non-combat World of Warcraft pet will arrive in
the
player’s mail attached to a letter
from Breanni.

This doggie companion has made
the list because not only is this non-combat World of Warcraft pet
ridiculously simple to
obtain, it should in reality be owned by every single WoW player who is
even a smigen concerned with account security. The Core Hound Pup is
sent via in-game mail to all characters on an account with an active
Blizzard Authenticator. Authenticators cost only $6.50 (USD) at the
Blizzard Store, last virtually forever, and will infinitely increase
the security of your in-game account, making getting this Core Hound
Pup non-combat World of Warcraft pet a no-brainer. And while Blizzard
has pointed out
that the Core Hound Pup’s bark is infinitely worse than his
bite, one can only hope that once the new World of Warcraft Pet Battle
System is unleashed
the Core Hound’s bite will be found to rival the bigger
versions we encountered in places like Molten Core.

Who doesn’t love a
tiny cute baby raptor, as long as it doesn’t rip your hand
off of course. Sadly most of the other raptor pets are out of reach of
most normal players, as they require a ton of effort and time, so while
this World of Warcraft pet doesn’t have any of the cool
idling animations of
the other raptors, it still looks good, not to mention it is easy to
get. In fact all you need to do to have this non-combat pet for your
very own is head on over to Breanni, the Pet Supply vendor in Dalaran
City, and hand over
50 gold. That’s it, end of story, the pet
is yours. Can’t get much simpler than that. In fact getting
this World of Warcraft pet is so simple you’ll have plenty of
time to sit back
and contemplate it’s future pet battling abilities. Enjoy!

There is not a single person
out there that doesn’t like pirates and if there are, they
should be forced to walk the plank! But back on topic; everybody loves
pirates because they are the epitome of cool. This of course means that
everything that goes along with being a pirate is also cool by simple
association and what goes along with a pirate better than his loyal
companion; the parrot. So why not head on over to either Narkk in
Stranglethorn Vale or Dealer Rashaad in Netherstorm and pick up this
colorful non-combat World of Warcraft pet for a measly 40 silver, a
small price to pay to
put a little pirate into your day. Not to mention the potential for
some epic eye pecking action in the new World of Warcraft Pet Battle
System.

While the World of Warcraft
pets above may not be
some of the easiest to get, they are the easiest to get while still
maintaining a certain level of cool. Do you have some favorite easy to
obtain, yet still cool non-combat pets you would like to add to the
list? Share them with us in the comments section below!
