Slash and burn.
Slashdot asked its viewers to submit their pointed questions for World of Warcraft. You can pick the questions, but unfortunately you can't pick your answers (or who answers your questions on the other side of the internet at times). Suffice it to say, CmdrTaco was none too pleased with Blizzard's response:
" A little over a month ago we asked you for your questions to send on to the World of Warcraft development team. Unfortunately, it appears that these questions were misrouted to the Blizzard PR department. Any "Answers" you read here are completely devoid of real information or insight, and instead read like press releases and FAQ-style form replies. As I am a huge fan of this game, I was really disappointed by this. We promised to print their answers, so here they are. "
A Pox on World of Warcraft.
It is rumoured that a disease is sweeping through World of Warcraft. Whether it is intentional or not is still up in the air. Get your penicillin folks. Dustin Hoffman warned everyone that this could happen, but nobody listened. He's warning them again, in a very loud voice, that sounds something like this:
"Apparently there's a plague spreading in World of Warcraft. I can't verify this because I'm back at 30,000 feet"
Wanted! A Winning Poster.
Blizzard is holding a World of Warcraft Wanted Poster Contest. Martha Stewart dismissed any claims that she may be on one of the posters stating:
" Greetings, fellow Azerothians. We here at the RPSA bring you news of the direst nature. Criminals, ninja-looters, and raid wipers have been showing up in increased numbers all over the world. It's time someone did something about it, and we charge you, the adventurers of Azeroth, with that task! What we need are talented artists to create Wanted posters depicting their arch nemeses, kodo thieves, two-headed ninja-looters, or any monster or character that has otherwise gotten on their last nerve. "
Don't accept unofficial excerpts when you can get official ones.
RPGVault has posted the World of Warcraft Official Strategy Guide Excerpt #2. Martha "You don't want to see me upset." Stewart, got upset when we called her home and shouted:
" Compliments of BradyGames, an edifying overview of the guild functions and how they work in Blizzard's offering "
RPPVP on the QT for VIPs
Blizzard has released three new Role Play - PvP servers. Vin Diesel can complete Molten Core alone, with his priest character:
" "Salutations! I, Bokkle, humble tinker and Gnomeregan exile, have come to you with wondrous news! My fellow lovers of lore and spinners of stories, we need wait no longer to find a new home; the path is open to a grand new experience not yet seen in Azeroth! Come, my friends, and rejoice! Let us celebr-eeeeerk!" The troll set his spear aside and looked down upon the tiny, prone body. "Heh. Dat gnome be chattin' so loud, he not see us comin'."
"Heh." A cold smirk came to the Orc's scarred face. "The little chatterbox forgot to watch his back. No magic protects the foolish in these lands. Be on your guard -- enemies could be anywhere!"
The RP-PvP realms are live and available for play! Are you a loremonger seeking gameplay with a little more bite? Look no further! Join Emerald Dream or Maelstrom and defend the realm against your enemies!" [Ed: Another realm, Twisting Nether, was later opened.]
Pirates cheer as the new WoW Patch version 1.7 is released.
Our own beloved World of Warcraft community site has the scoop on the latest World of Warcraft 1.7 patch. Vin Diesel writes his own patches for WoW, and they never have bugs, ever, even when he writes things like:
" Hidden within the jungles of Stranglethorn, an ancient Troll city full of peril has been uncovered. Do you have what it takes to delve into its mysteries with a band of hardy explorers? There's only one way to find out! Zul'Gurub is a high-level, 20-man raid instance with 120 new rare and epic items to uncover. Adventure awaits! "
Frap it and strap it.
Blizzard has announced the BlizzCon Movie Contest, sponsored by NVIDIA and doling out NVIDIA 6800 graphics card to the winners. Steven Spielberg refused to comment on whether he would be entering the movie contest, but he did say this:
" We're proud to announce our official BlizzCon World of Warcraft Movie Competition, sponsored by NVIDIA! To enter, all you need to do is create a movie using in-game footage and combine it with music from any of our past games. We're accepting submissions beginning Thursday, September 8, which means you have plenty of time to create movie-magic! Five winners will receive an NVIDIA® GeForce™ 6800 Ultra, two tickets to BlizzCon, and much more. Details on how to submit your World of Warcraft movie will be announced when we begin accepting submissions. Good luck! "
World of Warcraft Servers Trouble Europe.
The continued problems with the European World of Warcraft servers have prompted Blizzard to compensate the players. European players were unavailable for comment, apparently all playing on the servers that work, but we did track down one troubled Frenchman who told us:
" As European World of Warcraft players grow increasingly frustrated with the lagging issues that continue to plague many servers, developer Blizzard has pledged to compensate players for their trouble.
"Two days' compensation will be offered to everyone, even those who remain unaffected by the problems," a Blizzard spokesperson told Eurogamer.
"In addition, everyone will receive level one and a half extra rest so they level up quicker." "
Blizzard Boasts Battleplan
Shane Dabiri, the Lead Producer on World of Warcraft has posted the World of Warcraft Battleplan Vol. 2 on the official forums. 2,579 undead rogues immediately ganked the battleplan and announced:
" Since the last World of Warcraft Battle Plan, much has happened in the Warcraft universe. We’ve launched Blackwing Lair, the highest level dungeon in the game, we launched World of Warcraft in China and Singapore with great success, and work continues on adding even more content for our players.
BlizzCon is quickly approaching, and we're preparing the lineup of programs, dev chats, and the concert to be held at our inaugural event. I’m very happy to announce that we'll have the first public showing of the expansion for World of Warcraft at BlizzCon. Attendees will be able to view the work that is going into the project and hear some of the eagerly awaited details. To those of you who won’t be able to make it to the show, please keep an eye out for the game magazines that will be hitting newsstands right around BlizzCon, because some of them will feature in-depth articles on the expansion with plenty of information about how World of Warcraft will be evolving.
For this Battle Plan, we want to take the opportunity to look ahead to what our players can expect in the coming months leading up to BlizzCon and the expansion announcement. "
