DUST 514’s latest development blog aptly titled “Chromosomes” delves into the forging of tech that will allow the two different genres of EVE and DUST 514 to exist within the same universe while on two completely different platforms. Given EVE’s space ship and PC nature, CCP had to create tech from the ground up to bring the PlayStation 3-based FPS of DUST 514 into EVE, allowing the two to function as one maassive universe.

One of the big ticket interactions will be the ability for DUST 514 players to coordinate with EVE Online players to call in Orbital Bombardments of their enemies.

One of the most unique features you will see in Chromosome, however, is the ability to request off-map support from players on our test servers in EVE Online. With this feature, DUST mercenaries will be able to coordinate devastating bombardments with EVE pilots in space ships in planetary orbit. These Orbital Bombardments have the capability to dramatically change the tide of battle, and we'll be testing them thoroughly in the weeks to come.

As anyone can guess, that feature will either be very right or very wrong when DUST 514 goes live. It will be the subject of much testing in the coming weeks, but as we all know, gamers are a creative bunch and many specialize at finding new and innovative ways to game certain systems.

Chromosomes will be the last build before DUST 514 marches into open beta, but you can expect to see further refinement of core systems going forward.
