The World of Warcraft Legion – World and Content Overview panel was pretty intense. Totally filled with valuable information about the upcoming Legion expansion, it was what many of us have been waiting on. Not quite satisfied with the bits and pieces of information that have been tosses to us thus far, it was redeeming to be able to dip our heads so fully into what we have to look forward to in Legion. Here is an overview of the incredible amount of information that was released during this panel:

Demon Hunter Class

While we already know a lot of details about Demon Hunters, we got an even close look at this brand new hero class during this panel. Especially focused on was the unique Demon Hunter opening experience. Starting at Level 98, Demon Hunters will learn what it really means to be Demon Hunter during their introduction. Serving to bridge the story line between the Burning Crusade and Legion, many unanswered questions will finally be solved, including what Illidan was up to in the Black Temple.

As we know, the Demon Hunter experience will take place in the former prison world of Mardum. Several unique zones can be found here including:

  • Molten Shore
  • Despair Ridge
  • The Doom Fortress
  • Soul Engine

However, Mardum is only part of the experience. From here Demon Hunters will fast forward to the present where they will assist in defeating the Legion. Taking place inside the Vault of the Wardens, the Demon Hunter will do everything they can to change the tide of the battle. After the introduction ends, you will join up with your faction and return to Mardum where you will establish your Class Order Hall.

The Broken Isles

In Legion we won't just be hanging out in places we are already familiar with, we will be heading into uncharted territory known as the Broken Isles. Searching for the Pillars of Creation this is our only hope of closing the Demon Portal. Home to creatures both old and new, the Broken Isles are sure to be an epic experience. Making up the Broken Isles are six unique zones:

Val'sharah
  • Beautiful Druidic paradise.
  • Heart of Druidism.
  • Emerald Nightmare slowly consuming much of the zone.
Shaladrassil
  • Once a world tree that lead into the Emerald Dream.
  • Now twisted and tainted.
  • Archdruids of Azeroth reside here.
Stormheim
  • Land of deep rugged beauty.
  • Home to the Vrykul.
  • Storm Dragons, a new flight, found here.
Azsuna
  • Haunted zone.
  • Queen Azshara killed all the elves here.
  • Remnants of the Blue Dragon flight reside here.
  • Rich with arcane energies.
Highmountain
  • Untamed.
  • Domain of the ancient Tauren clans.
  • Holds one of the largest peaks in all of Azeroth.
Suramar
  • A thriving Elven metropolis.
  • Protected from the Sundering by mages that harnessed power from an arcane well.
  • Well is now corrupted and known as the Nightwell.
  • Elves inside are reliant on the Nightwell.
  • Recently, the Elves have forged a pact with Gul'dan and lowered the shield around the city.

Broken Isle Gameplay

The Broken Isle will be different than anything we have ever seen in World of Warcraft before. Here players will be able to approach the world as a whole. Four zones will have scaling flexibility, meaning you can choose to do these particular zones in any order you wish. The zones will scale down to meet your current power and rewards will also be scaled appropriatly. Suramar awaits once you hit level 110.

Once reaching max level, you will find that this is also very different from anything we have experienced before. Instead of daily quests, you will be choosing you own adventure so to speak. A list of objectives that will manifest themselves in various forms will be constantly available. Some will last just a few hours, while others will lasts a week or more. This will give you plenty to do without feeling like you are obligated or missing out by not completing the tasks.

Raids

There are currently two planned raids for Legion:

The Emerald Nightmare
  • 7 bosses
  • Accessed through Val'sharah
  • Enter the Emerald Dream
  • Ascent Shaladrassil to assault the nightmare
Suramar Palace
  • 10 bosses
  • Gul'dan's base of operations
  • Center of the Nightborn civilization
  • Home to the Eye of Aman'thul

Dungeons

Dungeons in Legion will be the absolute heart of the experience. With 5 dungeons for leveling and another 5 at max level, there is plenty to take on right from the expansion's release. The story has been integrated right into the dungeons to make it feel like you are doing more than just mining for loot. It is also highly likely that we will see even more dungeons along the way. Current confirmed dungeons include:

  • Eye of Azshara
  • Neltharion's Lair
  • Halls of Valor
  • Darkheart Thicket
  • Violet Hold
  • Vault of the Wardens
  • Black Rook Hold
  • Helheim
  • Suramar Noble District
  • Suarmar Catacombs

Legion Challenge Mode

Even better, developers plan on trying to keep dungeons feeling fresh and new no matter how many times you have completed them. In a new version of the Challenge Mode players will be able to take on Dungeons using a Keystone. This Keystone will determine the difficulty of that particular dungeon. Don't think that mobs will just be harder, Keystones will also come equipped with a variety of modifiers to make things more interesting. Think corpse explosions, more mobs, and even periodic damage.

There will still be a timer in Challenge modes, however, you will still be rewarded even if you do not beat it. However, your Keystone will be depleted and you will have to get another before you can complete another dungeon in this mode. If you do manage to beat the clock, your Keystone will not only be reset, but will be upgraded to allow you into a more difficult Challange Mode. This mode will be used to compliment raiding or as an alternate path to raiding.
