If you hate counting on RNG for those heavy ammo drops, or are too stingy to buy heavy ammo synthesis a Reddit user by the name of izzray may have just the solution for you. This is of course the latest heavy ammo glitch to be found in Destiny, but this time it is not just for a specific raid or strike but anywhere.

Granted the glitch is a tough one to complete, and requires that the player have access to Eidolons Ally which you need level into the Nechrochasm, and an Icebreaker, no small feat. But if you do manage to gather up all the required items and follow the procedure to the letter, you’ll be blessed with an unlimited supply of heavy ammunition to feed your rocket launchers and machine guns. That is of course until Bungie patches the game and it doesn’t work anymore.

Instructions on completing the glitch can be found below. Full credit goes to izzray of Reddit. You can find the original post with his instructions and findings Here.

The mechanics behind the glitch are pretty simple. Destiny is designed so that ammo drops when you need it ensure that it’s possible for the player to have a functioning weapon at all times. The first thing the glitch does is it removes the primary weapon from the equation, which will cause the game to not drop any primary ammo off of downed enemies. It then looks at your secondary slot which has an Icebreaker equipped. The Icebreaker regenerates it’s ammo and has a capacity of 0 so the system moves along to the only remaining slot, your heavy weapon, which the game will recognize as needing ammunition and drops it off of the enemies you kill.

Steps to Complete the Glitch

1. Obtain Edilon’s Ally and level it up until you have access to all of it’s unlocks, but don’t unlock them just yet.

The majority of the glitch will be obtaining this gun, leveling it up until all the unlocks are available, and then obtaining the Crux of Crota.

2. Equip your Icebreaker.

3. Equip the Eidolons Ally in your primary slot along with 9 other exotic weapons, or blue engrams.

The idea here is to fill the primary slots with items that cannot be auto-equipped when you evolve the Eidolons Ally (legendary) into the Nechrochasm (exotic). Since you have an exotic secondary equipped already in the Icebreaker, the game will glitch when you force it to have two exotic weapons equipped at once by upgrading the Eidolon. With no options to replace the Nechrochasm, it will remove the primary weapon altogether.

4. Completely upgrade Eidolon’s Ally into the Nechrochasm. So long as you have the Icebreaker equipped and your primary slots filled with other exotics or engrams, the game will glitch, removing the primary weapon slot completely.

5. You’re done! You can now use your heavy weapon freely knowing that, with the exception of a few special weapon ammo drops, the majority of dead enemies will be dropping heavy ammo.

Notes: Equipping a different primary weapon will end the glitch, as will leaving a primary slot open and then picking up a weapon. Anything that leaves an equippable primary in one of your primary slots is bad news.
