The Feast of Winter Veil festival is almost upon us. Taking on many of the characteristics of the real life holidays that dot the month of December, players will find themselves sampling delicious treats, having snowball fights with their friends, and gearing up in festive attire. Then, on December 25, the holiday event concludes with the giving of gifts by jolly old Greatfather Winter.

Of course, while it is nice to receive presents, sometimes it is better to be the one giving them. However, with online friends scattered far and wide, sometimes giving presents can be totally out of reach. However, that doesn't mean it can't be done. If you are wanting to express your appreciation of those who mean that most to you, consider giving out in-game gifts instead of the more traditional physical presents.

Not sure what items to choose? Check out the list below for some in-game gift ideas that are sure to put a smile on any World of Warcraft fan's face and keep your real life funds in tact.

Transmogrification Items

Transmogrification was released a few years ago and it has quite literally taken the game by storm. Players create elaborate outfits for all sorts of occasions and situations. Even those players who wouldn't consider themselves as hardcore fans of transmogrification probably have a piece or two on their wish list. Not to mention the exciting changes coming to transmog in Legion that are sure to make it even more popular, making a transmog piece a perfect in-game gift.

Create an elaborate outfit for that special someone that will make them think of you every time they wear it. If creating an outfit seems overwhelming, farm up that one super special piece that you know they have been searching for. Either way, it will show that not only do you know and understand what this person likes, but you are willing to put in some serious effort to give them the perfect gift. Sometimes it really is the thought that counts.

Battle Pets

Battle Pets can be a great gift for just about any World of Warcraft player. Whether they participate in Pet Battles or just enjoy these tiny companions for their aesthetic value, Battle Pets are almost universally beloved. What makes Battle Pets even more appealing as a gift idea is that there are plenty of these little guys that you can farm up or purchase with in-game gold No real cash is required here, just a little time and a tad bit of dedication can get you a gift that will be treasured. Pick the recipients favorite animal, a pet you know they have had their eye on for awhile, or a unique one that will have special significance to you both.

Consumables

Looking for a more practical gift idea? Consumables are the way to go. Every single player can and will use consumables at some point as they play World of Warcraft. Whether it is mana pots, flasks, or other potions these items benefit every player in some way, no matter what their game play style of choice may be.

The process here is pretty simple. Find out which consumables those players on your list use and go out and get them. Consumables of all types may be purchased on the Auction House or can be created by various professions with the correct materials. While this gift may seem like the real life equivalent of giving socks, any WoW player will welcome it.

Game Time

Nothing says I care like giving the gift of more game time. After all, it is almost like you are directly saying “I want to spend more time with you.”, even if it is in-game. Just a few short months ago, purchasing in-game time would have required you to dip into your real life bank account, but no more! Thanks to the addition of Game Tokens, game time can be purchased with Gold.

The problem here is that you cannot directly purchase a Token and hand it off to a player. Tokens can only be purchased via the Auction House by the account wishing to use the Token. With that being said, don't count this gift out! Instead, consider donating the exact amount of gold a game Token Costs (or a little more, just in case) to the friend of your choice. While not exactly the traditional gift giving process, the spirit of giving is still present and the receiver will likely be extremely grateful. Every WoW player loves free game time.

Gag and Other Gifts

While most would think of a gift as something with value, sometimes the best gifts are those that have no value at all. Head out into the world an collect an item that reminds you of an experience you and your friend had and wrap it up. Include a short note tying the gift to the memory and you have created utter gift gold.

If you would like to stick with something less sappy, consider going with a gag gift. Collect funny in-game items such as Worn Troll Dice, Pocket Lint, or the more holiday appropriate Coal and gift wrap them for some serious in-game giggles. Be sure to only send these types of gifts to friends with a sense of humor.

No matter what in-game gift you choose, remember to be sure to understand the person you are giving it to. Some will prefer gag gifts, others will appreciate something useful, while some will want something more frivolous. Knowing the person you are giving the gift to will ensure you choose the perfect gift for that friend and bring the most joy. Remember, at the end of the day, it really is the thought that counts when it comes to giving gifts in game and out.
