Warlords of Dreanor introduced heaps of new battle pets, enough to swell the ranks of any collector significantly. There are wild pets, pets from quests, pets from objects in the world, and pets dropped from mounts. However, sometimes some of the least obvious things are the things that are residing right under our noses.

Such is the case with the battle pets that can be found right inside your Garrison. More than a handful of pets can be found right inside your home away from home,

Menagerie

The Menagerie is the building to have for pet lovers of all types. A total of seven unique pets can be obtained from just this one building alone. To unlock the Menagerie your Garrison must first have been upgraded to Level 3. At this point the quest Pets Versus Pests will open at your Menagerie, which will require you to defeat Carrotus Maximus, Gorefu, and Gnawface inside your Garrison.

Completing this quest will open up your Menagerie and get you one step closer to obtaining some new pets! From here upgrade to Level 2 with the Menagerie, Level 2 blueprint. Then upgrade to Level 3 by winning 500 Dreanor Pet Battles for the Draenic Pet Battler achievement and purchasing the Menagerie, Level 3 blueprint.

After upgrading your Menagerie to Level 3, you will have access to a daily quest that will reward you with a Big Bag of Pet Supplies when it is completed. Each time you open one of these bags you have a small chance to earn one of the following pets:

  • Albino Chimaeraling
  • Firewing
  • Ghastly Kid
  • Puddle Terror
  • Sun Sproutling
  • Sunfire Kaliri
  • Weebomination

Barn

What kind of animals are normally associated with barns? Cows, of course! So it comes as no surprise that your Level 3 Barn will allow players to pick up their very own Pygmy Cow. A Level 3 Barn requires your Town Hall to be Level 2 and that you have completed the Spires of Arak quest line or reached level 98.

Once you have upgraded your Barn to Level 3, it will gain an additional floor as well as a Glass of Warm Milk. This item contains your pet. The Glass of Warm Milk can either be found on the top floor or bottom floor of your Barn. This item is rather indistinct and resembles a standard metal cup making it very easy to miss if you aren't looking for it.

While finding this item on the bottom floor of your Barn is a breeze, getting to the top floor can be a real pain. To reach this floor you will need some assistance (such as Aviana's Feather) and a bit of luck to get you to the top. However, if you are okay with a little waiting, the Glass of Warm milk does move each time you zone into your Garrison. So if you can't reach that top floor, keep checking back. Unlike other pets find inside the Garrison, this pet cannot be caged. This means each player must collect their very own Pygmy Cow from their very own Barn.

Trading Post

Alliance

Alliance players can obtain the Sky Fry from their Level 2 Trading Post. A Level 2 Town Hall will automatically grant you the ability to build a Level 1 Trading Post. The blueprint for the Level 2 version of this building can be purchased from the blueprint vendor after you have reached level 98 or completed the Spires of Arak questline. This little ray will run you 2000 Apexis Crystals and 1,000 Gold.

Horde

Horde players will be able to purchase the Bone Wasp. This giant bee can be purchased for 2,000 Apexis Crystals and 1,000 Gold from your Level 2 Trading Post. A Level 2 Town Hall will automatically grant you the ability to build a Level 1 Trading Post. The blueprint for the Level 2 version of this building can be purchased from the blueprint vendor after you have reached level 98 or completed the Spires of Arak questline.

Inn/Tavern

The Lunerfall Inn/Frostwall Tavern is one Garrison building that has almost instant pet gratification. As soon as you build this building a host of NPCs will immediately appear offering up various quests for the taking. Two of these random quests award the player with two very neat pets: Everbloom Peachick and Sentinel's Companion.

Everbloom Peachick

For the Birds is the quest associated with this pet and comes from an NPC named Mylune. This quest asks players to venture into the Everbloom and collect a Tiny Peachick Hatchling and defeat Yalnu. The Tiny Peachick Hatchling can be found in a patch of bushes, just before Xeretac's Burrow. Yalnu is the last boss in the Everbloom instance.

Sentinel's Companion

The Huntresses is the quest that will award you this companion and is picked up from the Cowled Ranger. For this quest players will need to head inside the Shadowmoon Burial Grounds to collect a Silver-Lined Arrow and defeat Ner'zhul. The Silver-Lined Arrow can be found near the start of the instance. This item is only available in the Heroic version of the instance. Ner'zhul is the final boss in the instance and may be killed on any difficulty.

Engineering Works

The Engineering Works Garrison building will give you access to three mechanical battle pets: Lifelike Mechanical Frostboar, Mechanical Scorpid, and the Mechanical Axebeak. Engineers will only need to unlock the Level 1 version of this building which is automatically learned once you upgrade your Garrison to a Level 2.

Once the Engineering Works is built, the player with the Engineering profession can purchase schematics from Pozzlow (Horde) or Zaren Hoffle (Alliance) to create these battle pets for 1 Secret of Draenor Engineering each. If you don't have the Engineering Building in place, the plans for these pets can also be purchased in Ashran from Niksteelrings (Horde) or Sean Catchpole (Alliance). The pets take the following materials to create:

  • Lifelike Mechanical Frostboar – 50 Gearspring Parts and 40 Sumptuous Fur
  • Mechanical Scorpid – 30 Gearspring Parts and 10 Blackrock Ore
  • Mechanical Axebeak – 50 Gearspring Parts

Not an Engineer and still want these battle pets? No problem! Build an Engineering Works and upgrade it to Level 3. Level 1 is Automatically learned at Garrison Level 2, purchase the level 2 blueprint at level 96 or after completing the Talador questline, and finally; unlock Level 3 by completing 250 Work Orders at your Garrison and earning the Working More Orders achievement. With a Level 3 Engineering Works in place, these pets will be available to you too!

Herb Garden

Nightshade Sproutling

Collect your own creepy little plant man with the Nighshade Sproutling. This pet has a tiny chance to drop from any Disturbed Podling. Disturbed Podlings randomly spawn from any herbalism node, including the ones found in your Herb Garden.

Access to your Level 1 Herb Garden is possible at level 96 with a Level 2 Garrison. The quest; Clearing the Garden, will appear asking you to kill 8 Lunarfall Raccoons/Frostwall Nibblers that are running rampant in the place. Completing this quest will open up your Herb Garden and give you your first chance at finding Disturbed Podlings.

While you could just stay with a Level 1 Herb Garden, you can open up more herbalism nodes and more chances to get Disturbed Podlings to spawn by upgrading. Purchase the Level 2 Blueprint for this building from the blueprint vendor for 1,000 Gold. Up your chances even more by upgrading to the Level 3 version of this building by collecting 500 Draenic Seeds (obtained from herbalism nodes in Draenor), then purchasing the Level 3 blueprint for 1,000 Gold.

Crazy Carrot

This little veggie is available for purchase from vendors Naron Bloomthistle (Alliance) or Tarnon (Horde). Both of which are available in your Level 1 Herb Garden. However, this pet won't cost you gold. Instead, players will need to cash in 1,000 Draenic Seeds. These are looted as you pick herbs in Draenor. Keep in mind that these seeds are also used for Work Orders, so you may want to pass on starting any while saving for your Crazy Carrot. While 1,000 Seeds may not seem like a lot, it can take quite awhile to save up them up.

Fishing Shack

Two pets can be purchased from the Fishing Shack, but it will take a little work. You will first need to upgrade your Fishing Shack to Level 3. Level 1 unlocks after level 94 and a short quest chain, purchase the blueprint for 1,000 gold for Level 2, and get to level 100 and complete Draenor Angler to unlock the final blueprint for Level 3. Draenor Angler is an achievement that reuqires the player to fish up 100 of the following:

  • Sea Scorpion
  • Fat Sleeper
  • Blackwater Whitail
  • Fire Ammonite
  • Jawless Skulker
  • Blind Lake Sturgeon
  • Abyssal Gulper Eel

After you Fishing Shack is Level 3 you will be able to recruit Nat Pagle as a Follower. Good old Nat sells both pets, but you will need to have Good Friends standing with him to purchase. To do this players will need to complete a repeatable quest offered by Nat to turn in a Lunker. This will reward them with Nat's Lucky Coin and a small increase in friendship. After Good Friends status is reached, both pets can be purchased for 50 Nat's Lucky Coins a piece.

Mine

Goren Protectors are nasty little beasts that have a small chance to spawn from mining nodes in Draenor, inlcuding those found inside your mine. From these pests players have an even smaller chance to obtain the Ore Eater pet. All you need to do is open you mine. To do this players must have reached level 92, have a Level 2 Garrison in place. When these condiitons are met the quest; Things Are Not Goren Our Way, will appear. This quest asks the player to kill Stonetooth in the Garrison mine as well as 8 Goren.

After this quest is complete your Mine will be open for business. All you need to do is mine the nodes and kill any Goren Protectors that spawn. Remember, while a Level 1 Mine will suffice, a higher level Mine will give you more nodes, thus upping the chances for a spawn.
