The World of Warcraft UI is one of the most important, yet often one of the most overlooked features in the game. Even though most of us don't think about it, we use the UI for literally every single thing we do when playing. Like many other features, the UI has undergone a host of changes over the years to improve our game play experience. In Legion, the next WoW expansion, the improvements will continue in a big way. While the UI will look much the same as it always has, the quality of life has vastly been improved and we are only in Alpha testing.

Read onward for an overview of the major changes you can expect to see to your UI in Legion:

Professions

The Professions UI, while functional, was not very pleasant to use. All that is changing in Legion and browsing the Profession tab will feel less of a chore. The brand new Professions tab has acquired a variety of improvements that makes it easier than ever before to search for recipes, keep track of your collection, and put your skills to use. Larger than ever before, the Profession UI now features two distinct windows that allows you to view a host of information at a glance including:

  • Profession Level
  • Recipe Search
  • Recipe Sort
  • Collected and Uncollected Recipes
  • Recipe Reagents
  • Recipe Rank

All of this is laid out in an easy to understand interface that will be easily usable and understood by any player. Besides the above listed changes, Profession recipes have been broken down into various new categories, making searching for what you need easier than ever before.

Interface

Some subtle changes are coming to the Interface UI. While not super exciting, they will still help to improve game play in small ways. For example, the Combat Menu will now give you the option to Flash Screen when your character reaches low health. Also being added are a Personal Resource Display that adds Health and Resource information below your character, and a new Self Highlight option that allows you to highlight your character in raids, battlegrounds, or just when you are in combat.

Questing and Rare Spawns

Only a few changes in this area, but they are pretty helpful ones. For important, major quest chains, there a new dialog system will allow the NPC that gave the quest to tell you more information as you progress. This is visually more appeal and makes completing quests easier than ever before. Also, rare spawns have gotten a redesign on the mini map and will now appear as silver stars instead of skulls.

Transmog Collection and Wardrobe

At BlizzCon the brand new Transmogrification Wardrobe was revealed. This handy interface will collect all Transmog gear and allow you to easily search for it, as well as create your own savable outfits. No longer will your bags be cluttered with gear you have collected over the years. This includes the three new Transmog slot options: shirts, tabards, and weapon illusions. This is perhaps one of the most significant UI changes coming to Legion. For more information on the subject be sure to check out our handy Transmog Wardrobe Guide.

Items

Only minor changes coming to the Items UI (so far). Heirloom text is now light blue in color, instead of beige. Beige is being reserved for Artifact Weapons. Relics have a jewel-like border, making them easier to spot than ever before. Finally, items that now grant Artifact Power can be spotted by their distinctive orange text on the tooltip.

Systems and Graphics

The Systems and Graphics portions of the System menu has earned a few new options. While not the most exciting of the changes, they will give some more options. They are definitely worth checking out and playing with when you get into Legion, whether it be Alpha testing or when the game officially launches. These changes include:

  • Five new Base Graphic Settings in addition to the five that were already in game. These options include Low, Fair, Good, High and Ultra.
  • A new Graphics API option for Mac users in the Advanced Options menu.
  • Outline Mode has more options including Disabled, Good, and High.
  • View Distance, Ground Clutter, and Environment Detail all have more options to choose from and are now displayed as a slider bar instead of the traditional drop down menu.
  • Sound Cache options now include Small (16MB) or Large (64MB).
