Cryptozoic President and CCO Cory Jones probably shouldn’t have done all of those questionably legal activities in his initial video to help raise funding for HEX: Shards of Fate. He clearly underestimated the gamer willingness to say “Shut up and take my money” when it comes to something they really like, and that was never more clear than with the studio’s Kickstarter crowdfunding efforts.

The Kickstarter campaign began on May 8th with the modest goal of raising $300,000 to develop the TCG/MMO. As the campaign came to a close today, the pledged funding had exceeded that amount by over 700% with $2,278,255 pledged by the end. This hit the higher tier stretch goals of adding a novel for the game by a “premier fantasy author”, a weekly web guide ala Codex Cryptozoic, and quite a bit of additional game content and other goodies. Pledged funding just missed the $2.5 million mark that would have added a live HEXCon event.

In any case, it looks as though the game will be getting developed with quite a lot of extras due to the generous donations of eager fans. If you’re curious to learn more, head over to the HEX Kickstarter page and official website for additional details.
