Loading... the bacon in your
MMOG BLT.

I am not a parent. And as long as I keep making stupid jokes that only
I find funny I probably never will be. But that's not to say I don't
have children in my life. I'm of an age where the vast majority of my
friends have been married for a few years now and they have young
children of their own. Even though the days of chugging a keg with my
bros is behind me now, we do still share a friendship, and they share
their concerns with me. So I know that the internet can be a scary
place for parents when they think of their children.

Add to the concern the recent age of Facebook and other social
networking tools, and things get even more disturbing. Webcams of
half-naked teens may seem harmless to those posting them, but let's
face it; it can be quite dangerous. Put a socially disturbed predator
adult behind the anonymity of a computer and horror stories can develop
without the child ever suspecting a thing until it's too late.

Other concerns involve cyberbullying, where the internet is used as a
tool for hostile behavior. I was bullied a bit as a kid growing up, but
I always had the knowledge that it would all end come the end of the
day when I went home. It's different nowadays. The bullying can
continue off the schoolyard with social networks and email.

So it's no wonder parents are feeling underpowered to help their
children. This is where href="http://www.safetyweb.com/">SafetyWeb
comes in. Often a child may feel embarrassed, ashamed, or otherwise
reluctant to let their parents know the story, but the good news is a
lot of this communication can be found publicly online. What SafetyWeb
does is scour the hotspots of the internet in search of any accounts a
child may have listed publicly and relays the information to the
parents on a regular basis. So if you have kids who you suspect are
flaunting things they shouldn't be, or are the victim of cyberbullies,
now you can have a bit of peace of mind and let SafetyWeb find out for
you.

An issue that some parents experience is that their children are a bit
more net-savvy than they are themselves. SafetyWeb takes this into
consideration so all the research is taken out of the process for
parents. They will receive a regular email listing matches the service
has found based on the child's name and date of birth and will send a
comprehensive synopsis to the subscriber. The report will list all
activity found in the week, and notify the parents of all updates,
positive reports, warnings, and red flags that may have happened online
that week.

The information is pretty extensive should a parent want to dig deep
into the report. From the dashboard of the service, users will see a
summary of how many friends the child has on their public networks, a
pie graph displaying positive and negative alerts (warnings may be
flagged if the child has set their profile to private), recent photos
added, recent friends added, and alerts from other users including
missing children.

From the service menu, the subscriber can also check recent activity on
the various social networks with which their child is involved. They'll
be able to see what their child has posted, and the replies to that
post. This information will also indicate where the activity took
place. A list of all the contacts the child has on their public
accounts is also listed in a comprehensive format.

The alert system is quite customizable, allowing parents to select
categories of activities for which they receive alerts. The user will
get a red flag alert if there is activity indicating depression,
profanity, bullying, drugs and alcohol, predators, and/or racism. Other
flags can be added by simply inserting keywords, phrases and topics. A
mobile option is available too to monitor activity on the child's
mobile phone. This feature supports the major service providers in the
US.

I'll fully admit that my first reaction to hearing of the service was
one of apathy. I figured: "Why don't parents just do it themselves?"
But after speaking to my friends with children and looking at the tools
available the advantages of the service became clear. Few parents have
the kind of time to spend online reading all the activity their child
has had over the course of a week. Teens, in particular, tend to have a
lot more time to spend on Facebook than their parents ever could.
SafetyWeb allows the parent to only monitor suspicious activity,
relieving the parent of a sizeable amount of time. The system is also
created in a fashion that allows the child to have their own privacy,
only notifying parents when something is happening that should receive
attention. To me, that's only a good thing, as I remember well how
offended I was when my mother would snoop around where I didn't want
her. Now the child can have their social life and the parent can have
their peace of mind.

So, while it's unlikely I'll have little Bens running around any time
soon, I have no hesitations in recommending SafetyWeb to the concerned
parent of today.

Is social network monitoring something you'd use or is it too much of
an invasion of privacy? Let us know your thoughts in the href="http://forums.tentonhammer.com/showthread.php?t=54345">forums.

League
of Legends Hero Guides - Singed

href="http://www.tentonhammer.com/leagueoflegends/guides/heroes/singed">http://www.tentonhammer.com/leagueoflegends/guides/heroes/singed

In the world of tanks in League of
Legends, some prevent damage, some prevent targeting, and some prevent
people from getting into or out of the fight to begin with. That's the
role of Singed, the Mad Alchemist. Running around like a madman, he
hurls both debilitating slows and his enemies themselves, suplexing
them behind him and into positions they probably don't want to be in.
We cover all of the ins and outs of his complicated play style in our
League of Legends Hero Guide- Singed!
