Can MMORPGS become Norways go to E-sprts game

It's no secret that for the majority of Norwegian e-sports fans, their go-to game is CS: GO. It's a simple game, but it requires incredible skill and knowledge to master.

The gameplay revolves around one team trying to detonate a bomb, while the other must stop them by deactivating the bomb or wiping out the enemy team completely. There are no special abilities, power-ups, healing or sneaky mechanics players can use to outwit each other,

Instead, to win at CS: GO, you need solid teamwork, incredible aim, knowledge of the maps inside and out, plus an understanding of the damage, range, and recoil of every single weapon in the game.

Norway's top e-sports players

There are currently 31 Norwegian CS: GO squads who have earned $77,143 prize money so far. When taking into account the number of players that participate competitively; however, the number shoots up to nearly a million dollars.

The top Norwegian CS: GO player is Håvard "rain" Nygaard, who has earned $729,279.57 in total from playing CS: GO tournaments.

But he's not the countries top earner. That title goes to Emil "Nyhrox" Bergquist Pedersen who in 2019, won the Fortnite World Cup Finals 2019 Duo tournament. As 1st place winners, he and his teammate Aqua from Austria split the $3,000,000 prize money between them, earning $1,500,00 each.

Norwegian Jackpot Winners

It's not just e-sports that have turned Norwegians into millionaires.

Progressive jackpots have turned hundreds of regular folks into millionaires over the years, and many of the success stories involve casual Norwegian gamblers.

In 2017, a 47-year-old was playing a jackpot slot based on classic Norse mythology, Hall of Gods by Net Entertainment (often referred to as NetEnt). The gods were on his side as he was lucky enough to hit the jackpot and take home the $8.63 million prize. The pot came as an enormous surprise to the player, as the game's biggest non-progressive win is only 7,500 coins. A lot less than the multi-million dollar progressive jackpot.

In 2011, a 20-year-old Norwegian student became a millionaire because he couldn't sleep. The young man was studying late at night and decided to take a break and play some casino slot games. He began to play Mega Fortune, another NetEnt progressive jackpot game, and soon sat down in shock as he realized he had just become $13.47 million richer. Only when the casino called to congratulate him did he know he wasn't dreaming.

Much like computer games, there are many review websites such as https://www.norsknettcasino.net/ that casino players can use to gather useful information from independent reviewers.

With so many different casinos vying for new customers, players should be aware of sites that offer sub-par service and low-quality games.

Can MMORPGs become a top e-sport attraction?

Massively Multi-player Online Role-Playing Games are hugely popular but currently lack the appeal of e-sports' most popular games. If it's a question of money, then MMORPG's will need to bring millions of dollars to the table.

  • Dota 2 2019 international tournament prize money- $34,330,069
  • Fortnite World Cup Finals 2019 prize money - $15,100,000
  • League of Legends 2019 prize money - $2,225,000

The closest MMORPG competitor is World of Warcraft's BlizzCon World Championship, which has a prize of $330,000. While over 7 million fans are playing WoW, Blizzard has yet to use that number to penetrate the e-sports market.

Whether it's because the mechanics behind MMORPGS don't lend themselves to ultra-competitive gameplay, or because the players that enjoy MMORPGS aren't the competitive type will only be revealed when an online RPG game gains enough popularity to dethrone one of e-sports giants such as Dota 2 and Fortnite.
