In an official tweet, Bungie announced that they would be upping the ban time of Trials of Osiris cheaters to multi-month levels.

The Bungie Security Response Team is on the prowl, issuing multi-month Trials bans to cheaters in the Crucible. Play nice!

Cheating has started to become a major problem in the PvP side of Destiny, with aimbots and lag switches running amok. It's in Trials of Osiris though were things become very heated for many players because running each match is an extremely important step towards filling out that perfect 9-0 card. Having your perfect run ruined by getting booted out of a game via a network exploit is not only not fun, it can be down right infurating. Something you can tell by reading the replies to that tweet.

While the threat of a multi month ban, and actually getting banned will be enough to disway many cheaters, there will always be those that think snoozing their way to victory is the way to go. We can only hope Bungie follows through and takes a more proactive approach to weeding them out of the game before turn too many people off of PvP.
