Late yesterday the 1.6.1 Patch Notes for Elder Scrolls Online went live on the Test Server and bring about a whole host of changes. Addressing a number of issues found in the first patch to the PTS, there's fixes for various animations, abilities, the Justice System, and much more. Overall it seems that the reaction to the patch is generally positive but like most MMO's, there's still a lot of discussion revolving around specific skill changes.

The most interesting aspect of the update has to be the Justice System. I know many people who play Archeage adore the Justice System they have and it's awesome to see Zenimax turning the heat up on scoundrels and ruffians. Notable improvements include the following:

  • Stealth abilities, such as Shadow Cloak, no longer prevent you from being witnessed while performing criminal acts.
  • You will now see a countdown in the conversation window when a guard is attempting to arrest you displaying the remaining time before the guard will attack you. If the timer reaches zero, you will no longer be able to pay your bounty. You’ll be forced to flee or face the wrath of justice.
  • Added some additional tutorials in relation to the Justice System.
  • You will now receive bounty when caught stealing gold, and for attacking guards.

Interestingly, it looks as though the value of stolen items has taken a hit this patch ("Significantly reduced the value of green, blue, and purple quality stolen items.") although I'm not entirely sure why. I suppose the main incentive is to ensure that stealing items isn't an automatic path to becoming rich while those who pursue the lifestyle will still earn an income.
